270wsm vs 30-06sprg

Hey gang I need some info has anyone ever used the 270wsm? I am looking at a t3 lite stainless in 270wsm and wonder about the recoil and ballistics and availability of ammo and overall performance of this cartridge. I love the rifle and have read a few comments about the wsm but not too indepth any info would be appreciated. If I do replace my sterdy 06 I want to ensure this is as much of an all around Noth American caliber for hunting big game.

If you do opt for the WSM, buy at least 500 cases too. With the latest Winchester rumours, the brass may not be available in a few years. Mind you, nothing will replace a .30-06 for versatility.

Shouldn't be a problem finding brass/ammo for the WSM's, enough companies make ammo for them now plus the ammo side of things is a different company than the company that makes the rifles. I don't think the Jamesion issues will cause the companies to stop producing this ammo....will just make hima wealthy man.

I've owned both calibers. The 270WSM in my mind recoils no harder than an 06 and I feel comfortable using it on pretty much anything. Having said that if I knew I was chasing moose in thick cover I would probably opt for the 06 loaded with heavy bullets. The 270WSM shoots fast and needs premium bullets to hold up to the high impact velocities and is limited to a 160gr bullet.

I've got a winchester featherweight in 270 WSM. Shoots really flat and fast. Recoil is a little hard, but this is a lightweight rifle, so I don't think it's any worse than the 7mm mag or a 30.06 in the same rifle.

Availablity of the cartridge is more limited than a plain .270 or a .30-06 so I always make sure to bring supply with me on remote trips. There are now more manufacturers making this product so the variety is improving, but it will never be as versatile as the 30.06.

I've used it on deer, moose and blackbear. Bad shot placement limited my options on the big moose, and I would have been better off with some reloads a little heavier than the factory 150 grains that are available.

I would consider where you'll be shooting or hunting. In the trees with a light grain bullet, the 270 may limit your options a lot more. For me in the prairies, I like the speed and flat trajectory of the .270 WSM

I would stay away from the 7mm WSM. It hasn't really seemed to catch on. If you want a bullet on the heavier end of the scale, I would definately consider the 300 WSM as well.

Great rifle. I have 2 T3 LS 270WSM....Love them. The wife took over the first one so I bought another for me. Shoots incredibley awesome with Winchester Supreme 140gr. Accubonds and my reloads too. I wasnt too much of a believer in this rifle for elk, but after seeing the performance of the caliber and bullet combo the past 2 seasons, I am a BELIEVER NOW!! I still love my Sako m75 SS 300WM for my main rifle, but this Tikka T3 is starting to find a spot close to my heart, as well as the Game shot with it! LOL

I think the T3 Lite Stainless will have more felt recoil than my Laminate ones. If you wait a bit longer, Tikka will have the T3 Lite Stainless out ina camo stock for 2006. Check out www.berettausa.com

Sweet looking rifle. Now only if a guy could get a factory camo T3 Varmint Stainless (22-250) in Realtree Hardwoods- Winter camo pattern for coyotes!
