I'll admit it. I've been a closet fan of the .270WSM cartridge since it's introduction in 2001  I've stood by silently and watched the WSM debates and secretly wished I had one in .270  I've justified my non purchase due to already owning a perfectly capable .270Win. Well, no more. I'm coming out of the closet an declaring my decision to get up to speed and get my hands on what I feel is one of the better short mags for my intents and purposes, being mainly deer, sheep and caribou with the odd elk or moose thrown into the mix if one is encountered while pursuing the primary species. So what do you folks who already own a .270WSM have to say about yours?

I have one in a Savage model 16, topped with a Leupold VXIII. Very accurate particulary after bedding. I've had great success with mine using just plain ol' Hornady's Interlocks. The only draw back is the restrictive mag capacity, but what the heck, I only need one shot anyways. ;)

My winchester short mag is the best shooting gun I have ever owned it weighs 6lbs 6oz + scope 24" barrel, nice to carry, its on a Rem 700 action the sad thing is it will probably die because marketing in USA is for gun you want to buy the 270wsm, mine is in its sister caliber 7mm wsm .284 instead off.277
Her is target when working a load only three shots at 100,but have shot under 1/2" at 200 with this load. Just go out and get your wsm you can't beat those short fat cartidges they just plain tac.

I got one last year, in a T3 Lite, it's a good shooter, so far have taken a NT sheep and a WT buck with it. That was last fall, using factory Win 140 accubonds, I have since worked up a good load for 140 gr TSX's, and am looking forward to trying them out on game in the near future (big ram, Aug 25, ya baby!)

I bought it primarily for a sheep gun but like it so much I'll probably use it for most of my hunting.

I also have a 270 WSM in a Sako. My intentions is to set this rifle for shooting at long distances as soon as I have the opportunity. I have taken a couple deer with this rifle but they have both been under 100 yards. I just love short action rifles and I’m working on getting a 300 WSM...

Hey KF WTF???? When have you need a bit of support before purchasing a gun. Just go out and buy the bloody thing. If you like it keep it, if you don't let me shoot it first before getting rid of it. Who knows might go well with my collection:eek::p. All this buying and selling jeez maybe i should spend some mney:rolleyes:

I also bought a tika t3 .270wsm, deadly accurate! I set up a shoe box at about 300 yards on the farm 3 inch group, thats about the best I can do. The only compaint that I have is that it kicks like a mule and I don't reload so ammo is expensive, the most inexpensive box I have bought was $30 for some win fail safe(on sale).

270 Wsm

I have owned a featherweight Winchester for 2 yeards and I put a Mcmillan edge stock on it with a bedding job it shoots 130gr partitions at 3300fps for .6'' groups and weighs 7lbs 5oz with a 24'' barrel, I love the gun and cartrige.

The 270 WSM is the most *interesting* of the WSM cartridges, IMHO.

Althouh I chose to usea 300WSM, it was more due to my view of shoointng and hunting and practicality, more than anything else. A 300 mag is a proven performer on everythign in BC, although it is certainly "overkill" on smaller game such as deer, etc.

The 270 WSM is kinda "new" in that there are only 2 other factory 270 cartridges, the Weatherby is hardly used, and the 270WSM is a big jump from the 270 Win.

And that makes the 270WSM pretty darn cool...;)

Pretty much sums up my thoughts too. (BIGREDD must be on vacation ;)) Anyone come across a blued/walnut M70 Featherweight .270WSM in their travels? If you do, I'd really appreciate a pm...thanks :)

I have been doing some load development for my .375H&H and tweaking my .338WM loads in anticipation of my upcoming hunts. As a result, my .270WSM has been somewhat neglected. I decided to take it out for a stroll yesterday. What a pleasure to shoot after working with those bigger bores. Recoil? what recoil? If someone claims that the T3 kicks like a mule from a .270WSM, I'd stay clear of that rifle. Mine is a Savage mod. 16 Weather Warrior and I don't think it's much heavier than a T3. Perhaps it isn't the T3's fault, the shooter may be just a tad recoil sensitive.

I have a T3 300 WSM and the recoil is stout on it. Put on a Sims recoil pad, it makes a big difference, so I am sure the 270 WSM is not that bad.

I've a 270WSM A-bolt. I bought it slightly used, not even broken in, and it's shot nearly perfect. The loads are a bit expensive(my excuse to start reloading) and the recoil is harder than a standard cartridge but if the rifle fits you than it's a non-issue.
A flat shooting 3000f/s rifle. Why would you need anything else?? Wants are another topic.

I agree Kazul...140 grain Accubond at about 3200 fps and sub MOA accuracy... with reliability and good barrel life.
Nothing much left to say!
I have had three different .270 short mags now and the latest is an R-1... I can hit the corn feeder two out of four when spraying with this rifle! I have actually named the rifle "Corn Feeder" in honor of Amphibous!
I'm often serious.

I'm touched BR, really I am :D

the .270WSM is an interesting round. if I moved to Alberta or Sask, starting hunting past 300yrds more often, and suddenly became interested in deer.... I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Hmmm, would make a nice speedgoat round....

Yeah, and if someone put a gun to my head and was forced to move where BR lives, I'd get one in a machine gun. No wait if someone put a gun to my head and made me do that, I'd bite the bullet.
