275 grain .338 Swift A-frames

Has anyone tried the 275 grain Swift A-Frame in a .338 Win Mag? If so, what were the results on unhappy hairy things?
I'm hoping to make my .338 into a skinny .375.

Works well and accurate. Last years moose stood for a while after I double lunged him and then slowly keeled over.In all honesty I did not notice a difference in how fast it died compared to the 250's.

The groups are the same as with 250's but a little more drop after 300 yards.

I loaded to the same levels - IIRC 72 grains of H4831 SC, and yes, it is compressed.

I shot one spike bull elk with 275 grain Swifts in the .338 win mag. I had to take a less than favorable spot. Penetration was amazing as it went through a hind quarter, stomach full of field peas, and exitted out front shoulder. Dropped on the spot. Chronied at 2560 fps.

I then got rid of that rifle and began loading that bullet in my .338 RUM. I have shot a number of elk and moose with that load at almost 2900 fps. It is devastating to say the least. Actually recovered a couple over the years that were perfect mushrooms and penetrated clear to the other side - and found just under the hide. Most exit leaving tremendous wound channels.

I read that Elmer Keith loved 275gr bullets in the .338 calibers. Those were old conventional lead core bullets, Western Tool & Copper IIRC. I imagine those Swift A Frames would have superb terminal performance.

When the .338 came out Winchester billed it as the replacement for the .375 H&H and loaded it with the heavy bullets.Since then its been a not so gradual migration to lighter bullets and the caliber starts looking like a fat .300 Mag. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Dog,
I used the 275 in my 340Wby....The moose didn't like it!
Big frontal area and decent penetration.

Was it better than any other premium bullet? I dunno.
I'm going to say no not really.
Can I think of a better bullet for you application?
I'm going to say no not really. :D

I would think RL-22 would be a good choice.

Would be a great one in the 340!

I've got 3/4 of a box of yellow factory 300gr RN in 338 win mag, manufactured by Winchester. I've kind of been shy to shoot them as they can't be found any more in a factory loading.
