.277" 180gr Woodleigh's?

Has anyone tried the .277" 180gr Woodleigh's in the .270Win?

S.D. .334, B.C. .513, sounds good to me.:)

I'm wondering how they'll work with a 1/10" twist, at around 2500 fps.

I saw these bullets for sale. They look interesting for someone who doesn't have a larger caliber for something like grizzly. It would definitely be nice to hear from people who have tried them.
 
No but I think Barnes also used to or still does make 180's for the .270 I liked the old CIL 160gr for kicking WT's out of bedding areas.On South to North shots in close it drilled them 3/4 of the way through lengthways...............Harold Nosler still makes a Partition in 160gr

I doubt it.

A 1:10" twist in the 270 Win is generally adequate for 160gr and lighter bullets. You'd be better off with a 1:9 - even then, that's a minimum and might not be adequate for a long for weight bullet.

You should try, but try at 100 yds, 200 yds and 300 yds. You might find it stabilizes at 100 yds, but not further out.

Cranking up the MV has an effect, but is "patchwork" to compensate for inadequate twist, and 2500 fps is close to a max MV anyways (2600 fps is likely the safe max with a slow powder like H1000 or Retumbo).
 
I think I'll give them a try.

I was hoping someone might have some load suggestions for me.

I don't have much in the way of slow powders on hand right now, it's been difficult getting powder around here lately.

I've got some H4831 and some IMR 7828 to try out.

We'll see.

Get the lenght measurement of the bullet and from that you should be able to calculate if they will work in your barrel . I forget the website with all the formulas...you just put in your info and it pretty much tells if the bullet will stabilize.....hopefully someone jumps in here.

or Better yet just email Woodleigh and ask them :)
 
On their website Woodleigh lists lengths for most of their bullets, but not the .277 180gr.

The .277 130gr is listed as 1.087" with a b.c. of .409, the150gr is listed as 1.209" with a b.c. of .463.

A quick visit to a twist rate calculation website shows that 2500fps should stabilize a bullet 1.343" with a 1/10 twist.

Im betting that the 180gr is a little longer than that.
