.277 shooters

Thanks everyone. I've been through a few of the bullets, but as usual life slows everything down. Will update as soon as I have all the results. I would love to see someone else perform the same load testing full charge at 400-500 yards with ballistic gel, PM me if you would like any bullets out of my collection to perform that kind of test. As for me, I will be sticking with newspaper for my own reasons.

Just received the last of the bullets, the AB LR 150 Grains, I'll be testing these as soon as I can to compare against other VLD bullets. Newspaper testing is not to be considered empirical, but it can give consistent comparative results, which is all I was hoping to achieve.

Sorry if it sounded like I was criticizing as it wasn't my intent....I was just pointing out that the test method likely isn't a real good indicator of real world hunting performance from the bullets you are testing. It is an interesting experiment none-the-less. I'm anxious to see the results.

I like criticism, and I absolutely agree with your statements, it's just not really feasible for me right now. Maybe if I narrowed the bullets down to a few, but this task is much more daunting and time-consuming than I ever expected. I couldn't imagine trying to do it at 400 or more yards with ballistics gel.

The test was never meant to be a perfect real-world hunting performance indicator, more to compare different types of bullets/construction in the .270 caliber of new and old. Plus, more than likely someone has experience with one of these bullets in the field, so they have something to compare against. Also, it will (I think) shed light on the fact that more speed is not always beneficial to terminal ballistics when looking at certain types of bullet construction, and the fact that bullets should be geared towards their intended target, range, and velocity.

Don't think you'll get any argument there. No doubt the results will be more dramatic in the newspaper than in an animal but I have no doubt your conclusion is correct.

Yep, got through a couple different bullets including the 165 GR matrix, but ran out of time. I'll be finishing it this spring and posting results when it's completed.

That 130gr unknown looks a lot like a Corelokt? interested to see your results. let me know if you need a email address to send results too :)

Good work all the best
