That would be awesome necked down to a 257.

Post a range report plz. Would make a nice coyote rifle

Yes it is and this cartridge has factory ammo from a JB's Firearms and is currently going through Saami spec. Mad Dog Systems has a 6mm Mongoose built on the .223/5.56 case.

So a slightly whimpier 6.8spc?

95gn at 2850 FPS and 130 gns at 2650+ so yes and maybe. However standard 5.56 bolts and Magazines that made the 6.8 SPC's a tad undesirable. That is why people are hanging on to the underpowered 300 ACC because of the common bolts and mags.

I like the 6.8 and have two BCG's and A number of magazines but other shooters do not like hunting down the scarce hardware.

Does a 7.62x39 bolt not work with the 6.8spc?

no the 7.62 bolt is larger as the 6.8 is in between that and the 5.56. I didn't want take my bolts out my AR's but here is an illustration of the cases.

Left to right a 5.56 - .277 Wlv case (based on a .223 - 6.8 SPC and a 7.62x39.

Neat! Thanks for the pics, helps my brain sort it out better lol.
By the looks of it, you wouldn't be able to chamber a 5.56 in the .277, but it might go the other way around with the .277 in a 5.56.
It's a neat looking round that fills an AR15 niche. I'd like to try it as a 200m BR cartridge if it had a bit more neck.
Anything that keeps lightweight .277 bullet's in production is a good thing.

I called about the reamers and almost did it but it's basically a 250 savage. I'm looking for something more of the 25/20 in power.
This 277 Wolverine would make a great coyote round for where I live in the caliber restricted zone. Just change the name to 270 Wolverine on the data stamp.
