Had a young fella ask me if I ever heard of 28 ga Factory slugs. I've seen 10 ga, 12 ga, 16 ga, 20 ga and 410 ga, buttt, I have never seen any factory ones that I can remember. Course, I was never really looking either...but it peaked my curious george side.

I've seen home made lead slugs in almost all shot gauges, again with no 28. Anyone know of any available anywhere ? Were they around and now just part of the ammo shortfall ?

I found it interesting to ponder. If anyone knows, I'm willing ta bet...CGN knows !!

Preciate any and all input....Thanks Nutz Kevin

Sub gauge shotshell was rare and pricey before Justine 's scamdemic, and inflation. Have seen 410 slugs, a friend of mine put out a YouTube video on them. Actually pretty impressive performance. It always comes down to shooting upland game when out with a rifle, deer when out with a shotgun for upland game. It really comes down to choosing one. How do you unload/reload your 28ga when your 30ft from a buck. Really were talking under 30yds.

Back to OP. I've seen specialty buckshot for 28ga, never slugs. Little local store had a 5 pack of 2.5" 410 slugs for $22. So, I would imagine 28ga to be similar. Reloader only obviously, because at $4/, I doubt you'd practice much.

Something like a Savage 24 in 30-30/ 20ga would be interesting. Not really sure the purpose the OP has in mind. Just where a nimrods mind goes.

No purpose at all...just relaying a question that was asked of me is all. I didn't have an answer, so I posed it here on CGN.
So thanks to A&Shuntr, I now know the answer...they were in fact made.

I have a couple 5 packs of Brenneke from years ago. Don’t recall where I found them. I shot two of them to confirm point of impact. I usually have a couple in my pocket while out grouse hunting just in case.

Some years ago, I got interested in 28 gauge - quickly found out how expensive that was compared to 12 gauge or 20 gauge, so was the first shotgun gauge that I started to learn to reload for. From BPI, I ended up with "Small Bore Manual - 10th Edition" - they show various recipes for loading their "slugs" - at least the ITX Round Ball and their "Light Game Slug". Is stuff on hand to do up about 100 of them - but I never did up any - other CGN posters mention they feel better having a few in their pocket when out after grouse, in case they bump into a bear in bad mood or similar - I suspect they will be rather underwhelming, compared to say 458 Win Mag, but better than a pointy stick or a rock, I suppose.

Hmm .........a .545 ball oughta work? Much better than a sharp stick.

Haha! - Yup! That book here lists their 28 gauge ITX Roundball as 0.487" weighing 153 grains - muzzle velocity shown as 1,800 fps. (Although they do show a load with PB powder using "two" round balls for 306 grains, but only 1,295 fps) Their Light Game Slug shown as 193 grains for 28 gauge - loads are shown up to 2,000 fps. A bit of a ways to go to match 458 Win Mag 510 grain jacketed bullets at circa 2100 fps, but all likely "handier" to use in a tight spot, than a sharp stick!!!

Yes much better than a stick. The video I was talking about was 410 2.5" slug through two thicknesses of 1.5" scrap lumber and some water jugs. At short range, picking blackberries, i wouldnt want to be on the receiving end of that. A 28ga would be similar.

The specialty 28ga stuff I saw was buckshot, one big shot 00 and about 5 4buck. Maybe having one 00 buck makes it legal?

Is good to know! Same book lists their .410 "Light Game Slug" at 82 grains - various loads 1,590 to 2,030 fps. Then .410 "Thug Slug" at 125 grain - again various loads from 1,225 to 1,745 fps from 2 1/2" .410. Is also .410 2 1/2" loads using 4 x 00 Buckshot - 208 grains total - 1,200 to 1,260 fps

Wouldn’t hesitate to use a .410 slug on a deer within 20 yards especially if I use my adapter in the martini Henry it for some reason stacks those little slugs at 25 yards. The thug slug is where it’s at though especially in small bores.
