Beater, good choice with the CZ / Huglu. Here is Straightshooter's and my review of the CZ. Caution - 5 MB large.

I am also glad you found an IGA that shoots well for you, but I would not be afraid to carry the CZ in the field. Your photo shows the scaled frame of the CZ well, as compared to the IGA frame. After a day in the field you will appreciate the difference in the weight and speed of the CZ.

well, when i talk field, i guess what i really mean is " propped up in the corner of the combine or tractor". i usually carry a shotgun in the fall, and take home chickens when the opertune time arises. think its better suited to that job than the CZ

and a very good read there, you did an excellent write up on the bobwhites. so far id have to agree with pritty much everything you wrote. mine is extreamly stiff, but is starting to loosen up somehwhat. havent got many rounds through it yet. i got mine from G&T aswell, Mark is a great guy.
mine seems to prefer federal ammo so far.

Mossberg silver reserve or the new stevens gold ring -- $650 to $750 range. pretty good guns foe the money. Insist on pulling the trigger on a snap cap on the silver reserve --- some times the trigger pull is 12 lbs or so.
Cheers/luck

i bought an old ithaca lewis sxs. DOM 1903. it has the usual old ithaca etching on the reciever of the grouse , snipe and the scrolling etc. the barrels have a beautiful damascus chain link pattern ,really nice. i measured the I.D. of both barrels and ordered Briley full length insert tubes in 28 ga. this gun was originally a 12 ga. your old damascus can be used again with briley tubes, providing the gun's in shootable condition, i.e. headspace is ok and it is tight.these tubes aren't cheap but they come tapped for choke tubes . took off the old bluing , gold inlayed the reciever etching and finished all the metal with dura coat clear.it shoots very well, but now it's a christmas gift for my son

P&D some some quite nice Franchi 28 gauge O?U and I think they are on sale with 3 or400 dollars off the regular price, still well over $1000.00 Though. FS
