I just picked up an old single shot 28 gauge. I wont be shooting it a lot, but it would be nice to have a couple boxes of ammo to keep with it. Maybe the occasional bunny hunt , or grouse hunt.
I know reloading would be the way to go with this gauge if one was to shoot it often , but like I said, it wont get a lot of action. Does this stuff ever go on sale? LOL Maybe I need to find someone who reloads.
I think if I had about 3 boxes of ammo , I'm thinking #6 shot. It would last me for years.
I've looked at the Mec 28 gauge conversion kit for my Mec junior , but just cant justify the cost , for the amount I'd actually use it. Nobody at my clays range shoots 28. Looks like my options are limited !
Back to hunting for sales I guess !

Why would it go on sale?
Sales are lost leaders for the most part.
Overstocked items or stale inventory or the very rare super deal from the manufacture.
It is going to be expensive to shoot.
What part of the country are you in?

Don't know where you are but 28 gauge is not hard to find or overly expensive here in ON. Sail has it for $15.99 a box.

$15.99 a box , plus the tax = $18.06 I would not call that cheap . I did check Sail online , they have none listed.
Canadian Tire online shows Challenger high brass at $22.59 , plus the tax = $25.52. LOL but they'r out too.
I took a drive to my local Gun Store this afternoon and bought a couple boxes.
I guess I' was spoiled by the price of 12 gauge all my life.
Thanks all for the replies. .....Trig

Have seen on the shelves ranging from $11 to $35 per box, with the Federal being the most expensive.
Have bought a few flats at good prices when and where I found it at $11-12 per box.
So far, really liking the Fiocchi shells with 7 1/2 shot.
My wife and I are using our Remington Sporting 28 quite a bit and having a great time hunting ruffies with it. As she says, "It's a blast!"
Have a Benelli Ultralight on order. Hope to have it by this fall.
Good luck in your search, and enjoy your new-to-you 28!

Easier to buy a used MEC 600 JR 28ga than #### around changing conversion parts.I have 4 machines in various gauges.

You say you won't be shooting this gun much, just want a couple of boxes of ammo to go with the gun. Your 12 gauge is going to retail for $10 a box each with tax. Splurge, spend another $10-15 for a couple of boxes of 28's and forget about it. You only live once, you can't take it with you, live it up and don't worry about it. Maybe pass on a couple of Starbucks lattes.
