Just wondering what my options are for reloading 28 gauge? AFAIK, there's the MEC 600? and really nothing else. I did see some kind of "hand loader" set up on e-bay, sort of like the really old Lee kits (that you use a mallet) but I forgot to get missus to bid on it. Anyone seen these around? Other options?? TIA

Thanks for the link to the Lane's Reloading site. They have some neat stuff. I sent an e-mail to see if they will ship to Canada on a Canadian Visa #. I'll post the answer here , if I get an answer. kj

WOW!! E-mail back within 10-15 minutes: Yes we ship to Canada, yes you can order with a Canadian credit card.

Package arrived in the mail already. Nothing flashy or fancy, just a plain jane kit. Which is what I was looking for, and what I received. I'm satisfied. Now to find some #6 shot, #4 buckshot, and wads!

No real reason, just for fun.

HUmm. Good luck fining a recipe for it . Might have seen 2 in books in my life time and they were from BPI with a real high pressure like 13,500 psi and remember one box of 5 factory ones made in england by Eley. Have never seen another factory one. Those you could toss a cat through the pattern and not hit it. Any how be safe and have fun:)

id go for something like F size shot in a 28 for buckshot should pattern ok if put into a wads shotcup maite beable to hit a rabbit with it

You would get 10-12 #4 buck that would get deformed to hell and be mostly flyers cannot see the F being any different only less pellets. Have you honestly ever heard of any reloading of 28ga buck shot in your years??

Also if the pressures are up in the 13,500 plus ranges from the buckshot loads I have seen data for that 28ga is going to take a bit of a pounding..
When one considers
( from an actual lab test not mine)
A Winchester 28-gauge AA factory load, also with 3/4 ounces of #8 shot, gave a
velocity of 1252 ft/second and developed a pressure of 5800 psi.

id go with a shot conversion load same weight of buck as you would with shot(thats if it all fits) and maybe even buffer the loads

Bump! After using these for a few years, do you guys still like those Lanes hand loaders? Beside the MEC 600 JR are there any other options out there, specially low costs ones?

I can't recall the recipe I used, but IIRC the little reloader worked good enough. Pretty slow going though. I stocked up on shells and haven't even thought about it to be honest.

Some of the older handtool sets don't have pie crimp starter tools, and can be very difficult to use in smaller gauges(never successfully crimped .410). I use a card wad and glue gun. Good luck.
