28 Gauge Users

I did see a Ruger Red Label in 28 at this falls past North Battleford Gun&Hobby show. This is the only RRL that will get one iota of attention from myself! It looked a tad bit run over, but the seller was still asking 1700 for it. :(

Saw a mint one on the EE a while back for less than that. Really wish I would have had the money for it. Like you said too, its about the only Red Label that I really want.

though long passed onto another, I really enjoyed using this 28 ga.Winchester 101 Skeet gun on the skeet field and on Ruffed Grouse. At the time I owned it, target shells were extremely difficult to impossible to get locally. Hunting loads were not too plentiful either.

CZ Partridge with factory Winchester Steel #6 on ducks in close... the gun did it's part! I did limit out on opening day and used it a couple times after. Also carted the gun for miles up & down hills in a birdless attempt at chukar hunting. Sadly, not much upland hunting in general this year - the snow came too early

Hope you have more time to get out upland hunting next year BGB.Have not had much chance to get out this season myself.

my load im using 3/4oz shot winchester hull win209 primmer 15.5gr of longshot powder =1250fps . use it for everything from clays to bird hunting enjoy !!!!

13.8 gr. of aliant unique with a claybuster wad for AAHS winchester hull and a cheddite 209 primer. This load works great and gives you around 60 more shells per bag of #9 shot.

Sounds like a good deal. With Ruger discontinuing the Red Label the value of the 28 gauge is most likely going to increase.

Hello BGB.Have never had a chance to try out my 28 gauge Winchester steel shot yet.Keep meaning to but never seem to get around to it.

Hello Mac.Seems to me that I remember seeing some 28 gauge steel reloading data published by BPI.Maybe could check out their web site for data.

Like you I have done some 28 gauge bismuth handloading as well.

The biggest size i like to use for the 28 is #4- I have used #2, but you do not get the pellet counted that I like.
We could likely fix something up if you do not hand load....

Hi 28 Gauge:
I know of one wad they had which I have tried but it patterned terrible. That being said I just noticed Precision reloading have a sam1 steel wad now listed in 28ga, don't ask me why they did the 28ga vs the 16 next but they did.
I have been using sam1's in all 12ga nd 10ga steel reloads for years and bought unsplit and you cut them as your gun patterns the different version you make up. They are great. Mine you a lot of paper is shot to get the best combo and how long to cut the slits.
I am going to pick up a bag of these in 28 and will keep you posted. Happy Holidays
