my question about those berger bullets, is how they hold up at ranges of 100 yards and less. anyone who hunts elk during the rut, knows that elk are very unpredictable and can all of a sudden arrive on a heavy quarter and only be 30 yards away. I know that berger bullets and other soft bullets work well at long ranges, but I have had bad experience with nosler ABLRs at close range.

that 168 lrx is defiantly on top of my list. Lots of ppl want to run that new berger 195 grain, but how many ppl have experience with it in not perfect conditions. might be time to start a new thread on berger,,

I think for bullets I will end up using 168 lrx, 175 partition , 160 trophy bonded tip, maybe 160 accubond. also might try some Woodleigh 175s.

I'm having a reamer made for the 195s, but that will be for ringing steel, not shooting game. Curious to see how the 168 LRX will work with this freebore once I cut a chamber.

used to run Barnes 195 gr bullets in my 1-9 twist 7mm stw . Worked very well, but sadly aren’t available anymore. - dan
My personal 28 Nosler has a 26 inch 8.25 twist Proof with my own brake on it .I also have a cap for hunting.Right at 8 lbs with a 30mm tube with a LR vx3i 4.5x14 .Modified Kimber Montana.
Not bad to shoot without a brake .
I am not going to rush out and switch all my guns to carbon ,had one with a #2 benchmark about 4 oz lighter shot just as good or better.
Point being you don't need a big barrel for a hunting rig both guns shoot sub moa for three shots rapid fire .
No its not the gun I carry every day but it does have a purpose for specific situations where reach and energy are required.
