Nosler is necking up their 26 Nosler to 7mm for 2015

Finding it hard to resist ordering up a Fierce Ti chambered in 28.....................................

ha ha.. I couldn't afford the Nosler brass anyway  Glad to hear that they're going to expand on that big pail of a case the 28N will be interesting fo sho rival the stw et al I would think. ..

I would think case capacity would be similar to the 7mm Dakota, which means 140's @ 3350-3400 fps in a 26" tube. Not much more than a 7WSM in reality

Sticks to my redundant 7mm theme of my Kimber 280 Ackley and the Defiance Machine 7saum in my safe that still smells new.

In my mind that 260 N case is better suited as a 7mm... personally going the other way... 7-08 and 7X57 are enough and 7 RM when I'm feeling cheeky... I enjoy reading accounts from shooters who "bit the bullet" so-to-speak... my 2 coppers is "go for it..."

I know what you're saying mud. ... not that a 26N wouldn't take a moose handily but with 7mm bullets now you're getting into more large game appropriate bullets by traditional standards anyway. The next Q is I wonder when they'll do a 30 cal. or bigger?

30-378, 300 Dakota, 300 RUM, Lazzeroni, 300 Jarrett......... Do we really need another ridiculously priced brass super 30? They'll probably come out with one, but it'll sell as well as bags of ice in Inuvik.

The same can be said of the 7mm group... so I guess we will see... in 2015...

And 2016 should prove or disprove your .30 Nosler hypothesis...

The real question is, in 2017, will they trump the Fed et al, or will they drop down to the quarter bores???

The first thing I thought when I saw the .26N was "that thing needs to be a 7 mil..."

Me too, and the second was that a standard length cartridge in a 3.60 or longer mag box would keep all options open for different bullets, and chasing lands. Trouble is, the third thing I thought of is that with our STWs we've been utilizing that case capacity in 7mm for 25 years. The fourth thing was why bother changing.

Having owned 7mmstw rifles for so many years, I am not the slightest bit interested in a new 7mm, especially considering that only Nosler will be supplying brass for it.

I'll stick with my 7mm RUM. I only shoot it a handful of shots each year when I'm out hunting. At that rate the barrel will outlast me.

I believe the 26 nosler only has about 3 grains more capacity than a 300 win mag. So if one was looking for 26 nosler capacity in a 7mm necking down 300 wm brass might be an alternative with cheaper more available brass. I've gone this route and the only extra expense was a reamer. Other than that I use bushings in a 300 wm bushing die with a 7 rem mag seater die and it works great. The case is shorter than the stw to allow for room to chase the lands in a rem 700 mag and I get 180 Bergers over 3100 with ease.

If you don't mind me asking what is the OAL of your 7-300wm rounds. I'm going to rebarrel Tikka M65 in 7mm rem mag and the 7-300wm has my interest. The catch is the mag limits me to 3.4''. I'd like to have something a little different but if I can't make use of the extra case capacity it will remain a 7mm rem mag.
