280 ackley improved

Do any of you have experience with the 280 ackley improved? I was thinking about picking one up for hunting next year.

If I was going to get a 7mm Wildcat based on 30-06 case it would be a 280 Hawk from Z-hat.

It falls between the 280 Ackley and 7mm Rem Mag for ballistics.

I like my .280 and a .280 Imp could only be better. A 7mm mag on the other hand is junk in my opinon too common and boring.

I have 2 of them they are very accurate

They work very well. My version is called the 7 Mystic and has the shoulder location identical to the 7RM so that I can use those dies. Works very well and gets me to RSAUM performance.

9 twist is the way to go.

A good friend here shoots one. He gets exactly the same velocities, verified on a chrony, as published factory speeds for 7RM, using H4831SC and 140 or 160gr pills. With lots less powder than 7RM, and no signs of pressure in the cases at all.

His rifle is also very accurate... bughole groups.

I think 280AI is the sweetest of all the 7mm cartridges. If I hadn't come across the excellent 7-08 I'm shooting, I'd have one.
