O.K. so..... now I have my 280 A.I. back from Rembo (great job by the way), who's got some load data for it. The only load manual I have that has data is Nosler. I have had a long and successful relationship with Hornady 154's (in other 7's that I own). Anybody out there with pet loads for this cartridge (and...yes 280 Ackley I am awaiting your input).

Any load data for the reg 280 can be used. You can start in the middle of the range and exceed the max loads anywhere from 3 to 10% depending on your rifle.

For my 7 mystic, I use H4350, Fed 210m, Fed GM brass and 162gr Amax. I am presently running 57gr but that would be hot in most rifles.

H4831SC is another excellent powder for this cartridge as is Re19.

The data in Nosler #5 is excellent, very close to what I get in my 24" rifle. #4 data is out to lunch however, don't know what kind of throat their test barrel had to get those results. The velocities are close to what you can expect, but not with those charges.

Anyone seen P.O. Ackley's loads...wooohooo. I only have one A.I. in the rack that comes even close to his recommended loads. Any of the others would leave primers on the floor(at best). Great book for it's time, but I think testing equipment has advanced exponetially since it was written.

Thanks for your input guys.

One of the biggest problems with using older load data is the changes made in components.

I have used two new lots of H4831SC and my load varied 1.5gr in a 270 case. All other components stayed the same.

Now add in 50yrs of reformulations, jacket material changes, etc then add in all the variables of a barrel and chamber, and you can see why the data is way off.

Just try and duplicate the load data from the first batch of Varget with todays Varget. Isn't going to happen. Too bad actually....
