I picked up a Remington Model 700 (Classic) in 30-06 at an estate sale.....it's in excellent condition.
I want to built an accurate/reliable and light long range hunting rifle (Like a high quality Mountain Rifle).
I have picked the 280 AI because it's from a 30-06 case and close in velocity to the 7mm Rem Mag.
Thought I would accurize the action, bed it properly, and put on a new barrel......the stock is mint condition hopefully it can stay.
I don't want to spend a pile of money, the $600.00 doesn't sound unreasonable.
Planning a Caribou hunt and down the road an Elk hunt.
Presently have a 338-06 A square that I use for Moose Hunting and a 6.5mm x 55mm for Deer Hunting.
Would appreciate any advise.
Also a competent gunsmith to do the work.
