I have a 1991 rem 700 mountain rifle in 280 Rem dropped a lot of moose and deer never saw the need to rechamber to the AI works just fine, although I wouldn’t hesitate to buy the AI if I was looking for something new it’s easier to find AI brass than the 280.

That's fine if you need or think you need that extra horsepower. I don't for the game I hunt at the ranges I hunt at.

And then the 7mm-08 or 7x57 would work just as well for you as a 280 or 280AI. - dan

That is an ideal hunting rifle in my mind, always loved those rifles, a buddy I hunted with had one in 270 win and it killed a deer every year without fail, not to mention it was a nice looking rifle.
