I am expecting my recently purchased rifle in .280 to come in the mail soon and I am planning on doing up some loads for it soon..

It is a custom rifle with a mauser action. The bbl is 24"

any good loads that any of you use for deer/black bear?

I used to use the Speer 160 gr Grand slam or the Hornady 162 gr btsp with H4831SC It is an excellent round and sounds like a nice rifle good luck

My bro has a 280 ruger mark II I got him two loads the first for deer is a 139gr hornady interlock and 45.5gr varget with a federal 210 primer. Both loads group within an inch.
Then his load for Elk, Moose, Black bear etc. is a 162gr interlock with43gr varget and Fed 210 primer.

My 280 likes H4831 , Imr4831 ,fed primers ,140gr nosler ballistic silvertips ,under 1" groups at 100 meters. Also the 160gr serria game king hollowpoints with H4831 shoots great. Have fun.

I've had very good success with a 139 Hornady Interbond and H4350. Speed, accuracy and effectiveness on game are all there. Very nice caliber to shoot and hunt with.

.280 loads

Try 56-57gr of RL-19,and a 140 Accubond.GIVES ME 1/2-3/4 groups at 100 yds.,and has killed 2 bucks this year.57 gr. is a MAX LOAD!!!,so work up!Good Luck,Mur.

Thanks guys! looks like I have lots to work with. A lot of different loads to check out. i'll see what ingredients I have on hand and take the specs you have all listed and go from there.

thanks again!

I use(since '97) a 139 gr. Hornady SP over 60.7 gr. of H 48(very similar to H 4831) .Gives a velocity of around 3000'/s and is very accurate . Compressed load. Near max.... approach with caution .
Shot everything from partridge to moose with this load .
Have fun ...you have a very good cartridge , IMHO
