280 rem + 140gr Accubonds for moose?

I wouldn't be scared to shoot moose with your 140 Sierra load. I used to plink them with 130s in a .270 and never had a problem.

This.

My father and I shot moose with a .270, shooting 130's and 150's from Speer and Sierra (and a couple with factory 160gr KKSP) , and a solid hit meant a dead moose very time.

Premium bullets are fine, but if you're thinking you NEED them, maybe you accidentally drank the kool-aid...

I had much better luck with my 280 with 150gr bullets over the 140gr. Found a great load with 150gr Barnes TTSX's that I can push out over 3000 fps with my 22" barrel. Haven't shot a moose yet with it, but it works well on deer.

Accubonds are not premium bullets! They come in a nosler box but that is where the grandeur ends.
Shot a large number of critters with 130 grain .264 accubonds last year at 2900fps and they were explosive to say the least, penetration was awful, nothing stuck together, on 100 pound deer not one made it through! Best described as shooting an animal with high velocity confetti. I would'nt shoot them at a moose. Way too many better bullets out there to waste time and powder on them. (when I say better I include the non premium standbys in the crowd)

Moose are damn easy to kill. Maybe try the 120gr TTSX in your .280 Rem mountain rifle, they shoot bugholes in mine over 57.0 grs of R-17. 3.300 COAL

+1 what Dogleg, Muckwa and Northman999 say. 140 grains of Accubond going fast through a moose will result in one dead moose, quick. Seen it happen with lesser bullets and smaller calibre's going slower...several times.

I've killed moose with 140gr Nosler ABs out of my .270. Blasts right through the vitals with 6 feet of lung sprayed out the other side. I wouldn't want to take a shoulder shot with it though - heart/lungs only.

Agreed. While my experience with this particular weight/diameter bullet is limited to one whitetail buck, that experience tells me that this bullet isn't going to holdup and penetrate like a TSX/Partition/A-frame. Plenty of bullet for broadside or quartering away shots to the vitals though.

If I'd gotten off my arse earlier this year I woulda been using 140grAccubonds out of my 280 in a week or so on a moose hunt. If not 139gr GMX's, they both shot well for me. since I haven't finiched load development and I'm working up until we leave I will be using the 45/70 with 400gr Speers. The last moose I shot with my 280 was with 140gr Ballistic tips, and while I wouldn't recommend it, it worked just fine.
