280 Rem no go guage to 30-06?

Can I use my 280 Rem go / no go gauges to check head spacing on a 30-06?

I can't see why not but wanted to double check.

The shoulder of the .280 is .050" farther forward than the .30-06, so you won't get an accurate measurement.

What about the other way around ....using a 30-06 go-no-go gauge in a 280 Remington chamber?
My 280 closes easily on a 30-06 gauge..... a bit worrysome but not too much cause I only neck-size my reloads .
If my chamber is slightly longer (0.05) than a 30-06 chamber I guess that the bolt would close very easily .

Good lord people... the 280 Remington and the 30-06 are two completely different cartridges. The only thing they share is the same bolt face.

The 280 was designed with a greater length to the shoulder to prevent some idiot from chambering a 280 in a 270 chamber.

Makes sense, had a buddy put a 30-06 shell in his 35 Whelen once. Him and his brother had identical guns in the two different calibers.
