I am with the guy who says "you will find and AI cheaper if you are patient", when you least expect it one will turn up for way less than you can build it. Then ask yourself why is this person selling it? Watch the throat if it's used. My friend has one, and his friends as well, plus I've owned one. I preferred my factory 280 Remington KS, and now my buddy's pet gun is a 7-08 AI instead because he's a bit of a weight wienie; meant in the nicest of ways. Everything he shoots falls to the stubby 7, and I don't hear much about the 280 AI any more. They were in vogue for a while, and who know's what will be next. For what it's worth, I wouldn't mutilate a perfectly good 280. And it is worth more unmutilated as well, as others here have indicated. If you want to blow some money buy another gun, your 280 won't get jealous when you bring another gun home, and it'll cost about the same in the end, and you'll end up with two guns.
