.280 rem

I tried the Barnes 120 gr. TSX with superperformance for deer with good success. 59 grs. gives me 3156 fps. out of my 22" Rem. 700 mountain rifle, prints 5 shots groups 1 1/2" @ 200 yds. I looked at going with the AI however the gain of 5/8" less drop @ 300 yds. wasn't worth the conversion cost, new dies and fire forming my brass.

Can you reach the Quickload velocity? Sure, but not without going over max pressures

I haven't used it (RL26) in the 7mm RM but have used it in similar cartridges (270 Win, 7mm SAUM, 280 Rem, 300wsm, 300wm) - you can reach the velocity, typically with a bit less powder than QL default #'s , in the lot # I have. No extreme pressure signs

We were pushing 150's in a 24" 270 Win to 3000 fps, 200's @ 2900 in a 25" 300wsm, 190's up to 3240 fps in a 26" 300wm

Update - I've sold off a bunch of rifles either on here or to friends/acquaintances and purchased a new to me kimber classic select in .280 AI . Ive still got a few rifles to use while I work up a load for it that im happy with.

Anybody have anything to recommend on loads?

I have a 280AI Cooper. Shooting 168 Berger classic hunters with H4831SC. Very easy bullet to develop a load for. When I use up the last of these I may look into trying the ELD-X. Some guys are having good luck with R26. I have some R26 but my load shoots so nice that I have not tried it.

Not sure a 280AI makes much sense cost wise when there are plenty of 7RemMags around... but it doesn't have to I guess.
The 270Win today is a much more versatile cartridge then it was in the past... you are not limited to a 130gr or 150gr pill anymore, lots of other weights and types of bullets now, some thanks to the 6.8spc. I only have 1 but I doubt I'll part with it anytime soon.
The 7RM is probably as close to the perfect .284 cartridge you can get for the handloader, I've played with most of them, and other then a single fast twist 7x64, all my .284's are 7RM.

My go-to, never-sell rifle since 1993 is my Browning A-Bolt in .280 Rem. It's a great workhorse gun, MOA accurate with every handled I've made, and any factory ammo except the Rem 150 PSPCL.

If something happened to it, I would get myself a 700 BDL or similar in .280 and carry on.
