What bullet weight do you use in the 280 Remington.

I have been trying to determine if I should find a accurate load with the slightly slower 150gr or the faster 140gr. Is there really any significance between the 2 weights for a person to worry about.

I have been shooting 150 gr Swift Scirrocco with good results. Use to use 165 RN Core-Lokts, but have had a hard time finding them...Thats when I started hand loading..

I'm currently shooting a 280 and have had good results with 139 Interlocks on deer. (working from memory I think 4 deer and one black bear). If I was looking for a moose though, I'd run something heavier. Hornady 154 interlocks work well as a cup/core bullet, nosler partitions are never a mistake, and I'd think about Barnes, though I have no experience with them, yet.

My 280 isn't picky about bullet brands, it doesn't like 140 grain bullets from any maker..... actually I'm looking for a bullet of any size and/or brand that it does like.. :(

I have been using a 280 for years and 150 nosler ballistic tips work awesome. They are the only ones I use now for hunting deer and bear. They have the perfect combination of expansion and retension in the 280( imo).

I use 160 grain Speer Mag Tips with a more than Max, load of IMR7828. This load has accounted for bear, deer, and coyotes. For real accuracy the 150 grain Sierra MK and IMR4831 produced a 3-shot group under an inch at 200 m. I only had three bullets left from a batch loaded in 2004.

I've used one for about 20 years. Best accuracy has been from 154 gr Hornady SST or Interlock, followed by the 139 SST and the 150 Partition. All loads using IMR4831 or H4831, all well sub-MOA accurate.
That extra speed from the 140-grainers is no big deal. If I wanted one load for everything, I'd pick any Hornady 154 or that 150 Nosler Partition and call it a day.

I have had a few 280s and 280 AIs. Every one of them shot 160 gr Partitions like they were match bullets. Bonus: the 160 Partition at 28-2900, shoots flat and kills stuff very dead! :D

Kevan, have you tried these in your 280?

Ted

I've had nothing but good experience with 150 Rem Cor'locs in both moose & deer. My gun shoots 139 Horns really well too but I just haven't had the opportunity to try then on game!
