After assisting with dressing and extraction of a few moose killed with conventional soft points from a few different cartridges, I feel pretty confident that a well placed, bonded 140 grain, 7mm projectile started at somewhere between 2700 and 3200fps will probably result in very dead moose.
I am surprised no asked what your .300 mag is shooting for a load.
Cool rifle.I use a .280 Remington Model 721 built in 1962 for moose, deer, antelope, bear, paper, etc.
The "270 Winchester for elk" thread got me thinking about my 280. I was at the range on Friday and did some fine tuning with my 300 Winchester Magnum and the 280. I have a moose hunt coming up next month and though I normally hunt moose with my 300 I'll bring the 280 too in case I drop the 300 in a lake or something. The 280 is sighted in and shooting well with Federal Premium ammo with 140 grain Trophy Bonded tip bullets. It's got a 3x9 scope on it too compared to a fixed 4-power on my 300. I like carrying and shooting it a bit more than my 300 too. Will that knock a moose down?
Hmmm, i guess a new ".30/06 for moose"? Thread is just around the corner lol.
A .280 Remmy or the 7mm-06 or the 7mm Express - whatever you want to call that cartridge is great on Moose. An Inuit friend of mine used to use his .22LR on Moose. Shoot, sit, smoke, get up and walk over. Just don't chase. I use a .280 Remington Model 721 built in 1962 for moose, deer, antelope, bear, paper, etc. It's a great flat shooting round. Go hard and don't worry about it, just don't miss!
