280 Remington for moose?

They arent any tougher but when i eventually hunt swamp donkeys im bringing my 458wm. Not that its power is needed i just really like the rifle. I have no reservations of using my 2506 either. Just have to wait for a broadside shot. Wish they made the trophy bonded tipped in 257 diameter

22.5" barrel too, and it holds 5 down :)

My 30 WCF (30-30) holds seven "down". That means it's better! LoL ;)

My current moose killer is a 338-06. The moose don't die any deader than when shot with a 30-30 but it leaves an impressive blood train even my old eyes can follow. ;)

Will that knock a moose down?
Moose don't get knocked down from a lung shot. I've seen moose not even flinch from a solid lung shot from a 375Magnum. Many people blame the cartridge or the bullet for this phenomenon but that's the way it goes with moose.

If I was going to hunt moose with my 280, I'd use either a 160 or 175 Partition or Fudd Bullet as TB refers to them.

Wasn't that a 375 Chatfield? It's not a magnum

Nothing wrong with a 280 for moose. I’d lean toward a good premium bullet myself. I’d be confident using say a 140 TSX/TTSX on a moose launched at 2900 fps. Moose aren’t hard to kill.

After assisting with dressing and extraction of a few moose killed with conventional soft points from a few different cartridges, I feel pretty confident that a well placed, bonded 140 grain, 7mm projectile started at somewhere between 2700 and 3200fps will probably result in very dead moose.
I am surprised no asked what your .300 mag is shooting for a load.
