280 Remington

All the 7's are nice options... except the 7-08, that was one I could live without.
7x57, 280, 7x64, 7rm...those are keepers lol.

Im in the same boat as you. I like most 7mm cartridges but cant warm up to the 7mm-08. The 7x57 is still kicking around with more appeal to me. Speaking of the 280 Rem, im planning on getting another one in a Ruger m77 platform. I had an all weather SS that i regret selling one year back.

I own quite a few sevens (7mm-08, 7mm-08 AI, 7 TCU, 7 Int-R, 7 BR, 7x57, 7x57 AI, 280, 280 AI, 7x64, 7x61 S&H, 7 RM, 7 Wby, 7 STW), and the 7mm-08 Is actually a great hunting cartridge. In either the regular or AI version (I have versions of both). If I could only keep one seven, it would likely be the STW. - dan

I wanted a 700 mtn rifle in 280 for my first rifle but got talked into a m77 in 7 mag, never forgot about it.

Scratched that itch a couple yrs ago with a bunch of parts i gathered up - semi custom 700 titanium with mtn rifle take off barrel and ti take off stock and tigger tech, its useable shot 140 tbt federal factory but haven't loaded for it yet. Found new remington and 1x norma so lots of brass. Thinking 145 lrx or 150 swift s2 should be a good do all load for this one, It's one of my favorites.

Future plans would be custom fancy barrel and upgraded stock then call it finished.

I bought an A-Bolt Hunter in 1992; it's been my go-to rifle ever since. I just had it out this morning trying a load of the Barnes 145 LRX over H4831; it shot pretty well and will likely get the nod for next month's moose hunt.
It's become a lot more popular than it was, and rightly so. Dave Petzal, shooting editor at Field and Stream, said this, and I agree:

"** .280. ** Along with the .270, it combines more killing power with less recoil than anything else I can think of. There is a huge variety of bullets available, but for deer, the top one is the 140-grain. For some reason, the .280s I've used have been fussier about what they ate than the .270s. For the one-gun hunter, the .280 is a top choice."

I built myself a 280 and liked it fine but someone else liked it more so it went. I have a 7x57 which works just as well so I'll probably stick with that.

A buddy gave me a custom 280 built on a Brno Mauser action. Sako trigger, hinged floor plate, synth stock, even has a jeweled bolt.

I don't handload so I had to go through a variety of factory ammunition to find some that worked well. That was complicated by the fact that I had a flawed scope with a wandering zero so by the time I figured that out I had blown over $200 in ammunition expenses.

Anyway, got the scope repaired and have finally settled on Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip loads with 140 grain bullets. Two one-shot kills on deer last year and another on a black bear last Wednesday
