280 Remington

No the Cartridge ! the 280 AI EASILY outperforms the std 280 Rem by 100-125 FPS ! jmo RJ

Loaded to the same pressure (and there is no reason the standard cartridge cannot be), the difference is more like 40-50 fps. There just isn't that much difference in capacity.

This ^^^. If you're looking for more velocity, the logical choice is the 7mm Rem mag or similar.

Yup tried my 280(cooper) against my wifes 280AI(cooper)
Same exact gun both western classics just I had ordered mine in 280 and hers was a gift from her father
On the crono, with 140gr Barnes TTSX loaded to what appears to be the same pressure(according to manuals) as I have no pressure testing equipment so I cannot say with absolute certainty, the differences was on average about 50fps
I would personally never get a AI on purpose, I certainly would not turn down the right gun just because it was a AI but I would not go out and buy a AI over the standard.
Brass is cheaper, and no issues getting with the shoulder( I know some will tell you there is no issue with the AI shoulder, but I have had some)
I had a custom made in 280AI when all the hype was on about it, and I regret it, not that I did not like the gun, but if I was to do it all over again, I would have just got the standard 280. Or I would have saved a pile of cash and bought the rifle I have now as my main sheep gun, that is over a pound lighter and cost half as much as the custom did.(kimber adronidak in 308) Not that that is part of this particular discussion.
