I have acquired all the dies needed to successfully form .280 Ross brass. I can form necks for either .287 or .284 bullets. I am considering using .300 PRC brass due to its availability, relative affordability, and reduced sizing work. Does this sound like a good choice? Are there other "parent" cases that should be considered? Are there any recommendations for brass manufacturers? Hornady cases are cheap, but many seem to view them as being of lesser quality compared to others.

Well, last time I made some brass for my first 280 Ross, I used 300 Win Mag brass. They worked until I finally sourced actual 280 Ross brass. I think PRC or one of the Ruger magnums available now would work better, and you don't have to mess around with the belt. That's about all I can tell you. - dan

I use 300 Win Mag brass. I don’t touch the belt, it doesn’t seem to interfere. The brass fire forms to chamber dimensions on first firing and away you go. I also only use a 280 Ross FL die and just go really slow with small dabbing strokes. If it takes 20 small bumps to get it, so be it. Then I trim cases to length in my lathe and run em.
