Hey all. I have inherited a .280 Ross M-10 Sporter and I am wondering what this old beast might be worth. Hoping you guys can help.20221024_153522.jpg 20221024_153506.jpg 20221024_153530.jpg 20221024_153536.jpg 20221024_153536.jpg

Late production. Barrel condition (paramount)? More pics of checkering, stocks and condition of the metal overall.

Last one I bought couple years ago I paid 1500 for it was in very good condition so hence the price, not everyone is going to be interested in such a rifle simply because of the caliber,it's a collectors piece at best
even if you did manage to acquire brass ,dies and .289 bullets for it there are better options for hunting rifles than the .280 Ross.
there is no commercial ammo to be had for it and it's a hard caliber to reload for as there are no suitable bullets or brass

It appears to be in decent condition externally. I note it does not have the Porter Peep rear sight.
Bore condition really affects value. Give the bore a good cleaning. Let's hope it isn't eroded, corroded or shot out.
As a shooter, a .280 is an enthusiast's rifle. Anyone buying one with the intent of shooting it will know this.
IF and this is a big IF, the bore is crisp and shiny, it is worth north of a grand. If the bore is eroded, corroded or shot out perhaps half that. Maybe. Maybe less. A M-10 with a poor bore is interesting but would be a money pit to make into a shooter.

Thanks guys, that does help. I was offered 1000 for by a local collector/Ross expert. He described it as "superb" condition wise, said that bore was very nice.i just really had no idea of the value, soni didn't know if he was trying to score it and the couple boxes of ammo I had for it, for cheap. I can provide more pictures tomorrow if that would help.

That seems like a fairly low offer

yeah to the right person its worth a bit man..... 1k is underselling -- do some more sussin an re word your approach- say inherited from grandfather an wanting to know more, when you speak to collector, dont mention anythin about selling or price like that... you will pick up on his vibe if its mint, superb or naah really no good, but look heres $500 for it.... yeah lol

Like I said 1500 is what I paid for one in similar condition as yours so I wouldn’t go below that given yours is in very good condition the ammo is also a collector’s item

Is the ammunition loose or in factory boxes? Did a quick search for HDS, got Hirtenberger Defense Systems. I wonder if they loaded ammunition or made cases, and the loads are handloads.

The ammo was loaded by my dad, back in 97 or so. I do also have the original back sight for it as well. I did feel 1k was a bit low, I'm going to haul it to a show this Sat and see if there is anyone there that could give me an idea as well. The ammo is not factory, and there's also a box of 300 winmag that my dad loaded as20221024_203703.jpg well.

Croaker:
When you get above $1200 for an M-10, .280 it is ALL about condition (in all the areas) and colour /grain in the stock (still none posted). Put the “porter Pop Up” sight on.
With respect, the reloads are a liability, as I would never shoot someone else’s reloads through a collector piece.
Just stick it up here, at a stupid price, and “or highest offer” (seems to be the norm these days) and sit back.

Forgive this cluster
