280 Ross reloading journey.

I’ve chrono’d the H4831 loads I’m using and it’s making around 2650 mv.

To my thoughts it should be faster than that. Pressures seem good. I have a longer barrelled SDS as well, it makes 2440 with the same load. Thoughts?
 
I guess the epoch powder was a bit faster.
But I wouldn't risk anything other than going up a few tenth at a time. H-4831 has always been a very good and well-mannered powder for 7mm. calibers although it never reaches utmost high speeds.
I would monitor the web expansion very closely, too. It is better than judging by the fired primer's shape.
BTW, how's the neck colour on fired cases? Is there any soot?

I’m not seeing much deformation at the web after the first firing. Some cases are on 3-4th firing now and still good.

I think there was an issue with the primers I used initially. Ginex are absolute bottom of the bucket garbage. The LR primers will fail to light about 30-40% of the time in almost all my rifles. In my Garand they will pierce. Anywhere approaching any kind of hot load and they flatten. Considering I’ve had almost zero trouble with any other brand of primer ever in my entire life I’d say they’re complete garbage.

So that explains why I thought the load was hot early on in this process. Now after switching primer brand I don’t feel that it is. Maybe it’s even a bit low yet PeversPepere?
