284 cal Options

I love it man. I'm not one of those super competitive guys but in my opinion it does really well. 162 ELDs at 2745fps, so run the numbers on that and you will quickly see it's capabilities. That is a safe load of Varget to no fancy temp sensitive powder out of a 26" tube. Barrel life should be better than the 6 and 6.5 mmm cartridges. And honestly a braked 17LB rifle in that calibre has virtually no recoil. In my environment conditions one can easily ring steel at 1200m consistently. I have shot it to 1600m but 1200 and in is where its best suited which certainly fills the needs of PRS. If I had a medium length action like a tikka or something prob would have went 284 to get a little more velocity but very pleased with my setup.

By the sounds of it RL26 is magic in quite a few calibers guys try it with. In the 6.5 creed a guy I know at the range was launching 140's at 2950 with slight pressure but nothing major in a 26" barrel.

Yeah, I'd like to play with some but haven't found any. I do have lots of H4350, H4831SC and H1000 though.

I would look to 7mm RM or 280 simply for availability of brass. The days being able to choose your ideal cartridge combo is gone. Where do you get 7mm SAUM brass? The only supplier runs it every year or so and is always sold out. Similar situation with the 7mm WSM. Hornady brass quality is only so so for 7mm PRC. Once you eliminate the brass types, what powder can you buy? Reloader powders haven't been imported in Canada for over 2 years from what I understand. Can you buy magnum primers? At a reasonable cost?

If you want a short mag the best choice is a wildcat. A 7mm-300 WSM. You can make it from either a 270 WSM or 300 WSM. Simple neck up or down. BTW, Lapua has stopped supplying 6.5 x 284 and 284 brass due to the war and Finland re-arming for Nato.

Still, the 7mm RM is more than likely your best choice all things considered.

The 7 rem mag is an option.
If you're wanting to push 190s to 3k with readily available components you should consider building a 7-300 win mag.
300 win mag brass and bushing dies are easy to find, and Lapua makes 300 win mag brass now.

I built a 28 Nosler. Shoots excellent. I had plans on loading it up. But the factory nosler ammo shoots so well I don't think I could do any better. It is a hunting rifle so 160 partitions are fine. Box says 3250 and the labradar says 3275. Pretty good.

But I am thinking of selling it.
