.284 win extended mag?

No experience with the 284 Win. Anyone here running the cartridge in a short action with a Wyatt or similar extended length box? From what I understand the heavier bullets intrude into the case a fair bit with a COAL of 2.80. Is it worth the hassle of modifying the action to fit a Wyatt box or would it be wasted $$$$? Thanks.
 
Waste of time and dollars. I chose to buy a second hand used Win Mod 70 3006 and had a 284 Douglas Premium barrel installed. With the long action ,I am able to seat my 140 grainers out to 3.050 and show 2900ft / sec pushed by a moderate load of 4350. The 140 gr. bullet is seated more than the caliber ,284. My firearm will cloverleaf this load all day long. Love it, my deer rifle
 
My main hunting rifle was a 284 for almost 15 years. With a magazine limit of 2.8" I had good performance with 140-150 barnes tsx & ttsx, as well as 150 nosler partitions. I didnt find the bullet intruding into the case with 2.8" restriction to be a real world problem in regards to powder space/velocity, there's good powder options. What I did find is that it restricted bullet options based on ogive design. Even using a 154 hornady interlock at 2.8" meant the start of the ogive was below the case mouth.

Thanks for that, that's the kinda feedback I was looking for. The rifle is a short action but I am going to have a new finish put on it. I figured that if I was going to go down the extended magazine road, now would be the time to do it. After looking in to what it is going to cost I am going to go ahead and do it, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the other work. My older reloading manuals list most loads with a 2.8" coal, but the newer ones have a lot of data using coals above the standard 2.8". I would like to run as close to the newer data as I could.

What rifle did you have chambered in 284 win. I'm interested as my main hunting rifle for many years was with a 284, and still is.
