The .284 and the .270 are 1gr apart in water capacity. Basically you have a SA .270/280 with what some would claim is "inherent" accuracy.
The idea of a short action with 7mm that can realistically reach 3000fps with a 26" barrel and 160gr bullets (albeit with RL17) appeals to me. This is based on many range reports that I've seen on line. Even still, 2900 FPS is enough for my purposes.
I do not want a 7-08 as you're looking at 140gr at ~2800. I would go with a 260 Rem for that for better SD numbers for the same weight grain.
I think that there's not much around my area that needs more than a 160 7mm bullet.
6.5-284 Lapua brass is readily available and have some on order ( or at least requested) from Hirsch.
Great brass, great bullets, more than enough velocity (even at 2900fps), good barrel life and as you say great accuracy potential. Yes that describes a lot of other rifles and calibers, but this is the one I decided on!
