I'd like to receive your thoughts with respect to the following:

7mm STW, 7mm Weatherby Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum, 7mm WSM, 7mm RSAUM, 7x64, 7x61, 280 Remington, 7x57, 7mm-08, and 284 Winchester.

If you could own two or three of these which would they be, and why?

Not interested in comparison with other calibres.

Owned a couple 7mm rem mags in the past and would not hesitate to get another. Goes for the 284 win as well. I just really like the ballistics on the 7mm rem mag.

7mm Rem. Mag, 7x57 OR 7mm.08. The 7RMag because it has capacity in the magazine for 1 more cartridge over the short mag, and the 7x57 because it is a good general purpose cartridge, the 7x51 because it should have a little more perforamance but not much more recoil than the 7x57

7mm-08 & 7x57mm because I already have rifles in those. The 7mm WSM for no particular reason other than I've always wanted a Browning A-Bolt stainless stalker in it. The rest I can live with out................................

I would own the 284 win 1st and the 7-08 second. I think the 7mm rem mag is overrated, hard to get advertised velocities, I prefer the 300 win, the stw and roy are unnecessary, the 7x57, 280, and the the two shprt mags just don't float my boat.

7-08 and 7mm Rem Mag...a highly under rated cartridge:D....have had a few and all delivered 3250-3300 with 140's (one was close to 3400)with great accuracy....I currently have a Sako AV in 7 Rem Mag:cool:...7-08 because it fits a short action and comes very close to the performance of the classic 7x57....and my 700 Ti is chambered for it...;)

Have owned them all except the Short Mags and the 7x64 (which is a dead ringer for the 280) The 7mm's as a group are effective and versatile. If I was allowed 3, they would be 7x57, 280 and the 7mm Rem Mag. I have owned several STW's, love them, but highly specialized and seldom need that much in a 7mm. Short mags have little appeal to me yet. 7mm Weatherby is made redundant by the 7mm Rem Mag. 7x61 is a great chambering, but brass is hard to come by, and a bit of a pain to make from 7mm Rem Mag. 284 is just the 280 in a slightly shorter, fatter package. Regards, Eagleye.

Well, nice choices. I happen to own each. And if I sold the ones that just take up space, I would be left with the 7mm Rem Mag and the 7x57.

The first one I would sell is the Schultz and Larsen 7x61.

I had a 7mm STW built about 15minutes after Layne Simpson uttered the word. It was a 7mm rem mag Sako TRGS reamed to STW. The cartridges fit in the magazine perfectly. Jimbo Callighan from Fabyn, Alberta built it for me. A real long range, devastating rifle. But I do not reload so bang for that balloon. I sold it for a real shameful profit....

I own a .7-08, has enough jam, low recoil, and not fussy for reloading I shoot well with it. I own 7mm wby, lot's more boom, lot's more recoil, I don't shoot as well with it. But I long for a .280 ackley improved, near 7mm rem preformance (with in 100-150 fps) with no belt, (I don't care for belts!)

My BLR in 284 because it kills everything I shoot at with it. 7x57 floats my boat too, but haven't got one yet. My 7mm rem mag never gets used, if it was't a husky it would be gone.

When you look back there was 2 .284 caliber cartridges made in the last 50 years that really never sold that well because of manufactures made them in lever and semi auto's 7 pumps and the 725 Rem

Remington brought out the .280 in 1957, then changed it to the 7mm express in 1979
and then changed back to .280 Rem I was to understand that they never loaded the .280 to its potential because of the weak actions they where produced in.
The .284 win again poor actions, I don't think I would fire a max load what fellows use for 1000 yard F class out of a model 100 winchester.
I have a 7mmwsm and a .284 Win for me they are great cartridges. to bad the 7mm wsm will probably die and the only reason the manufactures in US
went with the .270 wsm was that Jack oconnor made the .270 famous, a good cartridge the .270 but even the great Jack said the .280 was a better cartridge, its all about marketing for sales.

I sold my 280 and got a 7mm rem mag. I then sold that for the 7-08. For me the story ends there. The 7-08 has a permanent slot in my safe it is all the 284 I need.

I have a 7mm08 and a 284. And a 7mmRM. The 7mm08 is my favourite - I kinda have a thing for the 308 case family, and the 7mm08 is the best of the bunch. I find the 7mmRM a bit inconsistent and somewhat overrated. I prefer the 338 for applications requiring a magnum

I've owned a couple 7mm Rem Mags. With most load data out there, they barely outrun a 280, but that can be fixed.

I had a 7saum that really impressed. It was accurate, good speed, moderate recoil, and versatile. Didnt matter if I stuck 100 grain hollowpoints over RL15 in it, or 175 grain Partitions over Retumbo, it'd shoot.

I think the only other 7mm Ive owned is my current one, a 280 Remington. So far, I love it...but have mainly played with 120 grain loads. Its pretty quick (3200 f/s) and accurate if I do my part. For the amount of powder burned, it makes a 7mm Rem Mag seem pointless

Ive loaded for 7-08 but have never owned one and dont have much desire to. I would however love a 7x57
