No. I'm not sure why people are calling these trench guns!? They aren't. If they were, they'd have the heat sheild that incorporates the bayonet lug and sling swivel.

These are Riot gun copies, which were the same, but without the heat shield/bayonet lug and sling swivel.

Trench gun sounds cooler I guess, but it's wrong.

Yes, if it had the bayonet lug and heatshield I'd buy one.
This would be good for CAS though.

These guns are a riot sounds fun enough

No. Comes in two varieties - mdf like wood dust and some Asian hardwood that is somehow similar to catalpa.

You would think they would know the difference?

I wonder who currently makes the nicest, plain grain walnut stocks for these old guns?

There's definitely a small market for some one to buy a bunch of walnut stocks, some repro trench stuff and then spend a bit of time slicking things up and locking things down..... not everyone is looking for a "project"

:)

That's exactly what I.A.C. used to do down in the USA.
They could not continue on though as (allegedly) the Chinese factories were unable or unwilling to maintain some quality standard.

Mine looks just like the top pic with the light wood and wood grain. But when I take the butt plate off its very fiboris. You can still see the wood grain, but it's very saw dusty if that makes sense. I haven't hit it with sand paper to see if it smooths out tho. Could be just a very rough mill job.

If it's Catalpa it's normal. It's very rough, porous, soft and hard to work with. Won't take any stains (well...very little). It's naturally resistant to rotting and mold. I recommend black tea if you want to bring out the grain. Not much else can be done to it...but the finish looks actually decent, so I may just leave it as it's for now.
