$29US Fibreglass M14 Stocks

well I just bought one from milsurp. I had it shipped to my sis-in-law in MI and will pick it up during the mandatory family visit in May. I may have to suffer the in-laws, but at least I'll get a stock out of it :)

I'll let you know if I have any probs at the border.

It's not illegal to import them into Canada. US Homeland Security gets upset if you try take them out (export) of the US without telling them.

If you do get stopped by the American Customs on the USA side befor leaving , get ready for a cavity search:eek: , Canada dosent care about the import , It is the USA that cares about the EXPORT

Exactly ! And they monitor traffic going out very closely for just that reason. How do I know? I cross the border twice a week and they randomly search vehicles going in and OUT of the USA. If they catch you with restricted gun parts you will have committed a felony and be liable to prosecution. This isn't wrist slapping crime.

Thought you should know.

I too cross regularly, though not as often as you. I have never seen a U.S custom's official, or even staging area. One just zips right up over the bridge and stops at the Canadian customs side.

Odd.

It is also listed as an M1A stock, which I believe ( correct me if I'm wrong ) is not subject to any export restriction. I also bought a scope mount - would they have a problem with that too? Also listed as M1A.

Thanks for the heads up, all. It will make a nice fence post for my sis-in-law's garden.

it doesn't matter if it's sold as an M1A stock.... if it has a selector switch hole present it IS in fact an M14 stock. You are taking a big risk importing without the proper hoops being jumped through and it is downright silly to even be discussing this in an open forum. This topic has been flogged to death over the past year or so....... if it has a selector hole and comes into the country without an end user export approval certificate from U.S. state department...... you could find yerself in some trouble.... ask yerself, is it worth the risk for a 29.00 piece of fiberglass?
and just so you guys know....... the following comment, if noted by the state dept/U.S. customs..... is basically admitting to conspiracy to export a controlled item.... and the U.S. loves charging people under thier conspiracy laws.

I'd be deleting that if i were you hehehehe ;)

Incidentally, would someone happen to have the link to this info from the State Dept? I have spent far too many hours searching the State Dept website and this forum instead of paying attention to my son who has clamoured for attention all morning. I find no reference at all, though I know a list exists somewhere.

Those who speak so confidently of the export ban, could you point me in the right direction?

Try these, found them listed in a disclaimer for selling night vision stuff.

Thanks so much Montey! It's not that I don't believe everyone, because I do. It's rather that I like to educate myself. They say ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law, but they make it so damn hard to find obscure info that the average man ( read: me) is made into a criminal because of it.

it's not a ban.... it is that the m14 and it's parts, including the stock with selector hole..... along with many other military type, civillian owned firearms, *require* state dept approval for export. So, in order to legally import, you must A) hold a valid canadian import certificate.... can be aquired for one time use or for more. B) purchase from a seller with a valid u.s. firearms export liscence, an item that is manufactured by a company that holds a valid export liscence.

send all this in with an application to export to the state department..... and play the waiting game to see if the stuff gets approved. I've personally jumped through all those hoops..... and while i did manage to get approval for a bunch of m14 usgi parts last year.... I had no luck through 3 attempts at importing quantities of usgi fiberglass m14 stocks.....

some how..... fabsports has managed this. I am aware of who thier importer is and for whatever reason..... they have been able to import many m14 items thought to be "un importable" ...... go figure
I tried to get Mark at Questar to import a quantitiy of m14 stocks for my business and was flat out refused.

Montey,
Though helpful as your links were, there was hardly any info at all on export of "military" items to Canada. Lots on export to hostile countries, specifically about chemical weapons.

I did however shoot an email off to the State Dept asking for specific rules pertaining to vietnam era old beat up stocks.

I will be interested in what they have to say

45acpking, Montey, and 1bigrn,
Thanks for all the info but I am ditching the stock. It sounds too damn complicated to get approval, and too risky without. Shame - I was really looking forward to it. Oh well, sounds like Ottawa will be making a grab for my m305 here shortly anyway.

Please share the response with all of us!

If you think you are confused and in the dark, our friends south of the border are equally confused, hence the reluctance of many to ship anything firearms related north.
