I'm budgeting about 2k for a new .22 with scope or sights. I want to buy new, that is the only real thing I'm set on. I love shooting .22's with target apeture sights but I don't know much about whats out there for target .22's with sights in this price range. Now the exact opposite of this, is the gun I'm really favouring on purchasing. That is a kimber SVT and putting a weaver grand slam on top. I've been doing a little bit of looking around and the immediate choices, in order, seem to be;

1. Kimber SVT
2. Weatherby XXII
3. Sako Finnfire

I should also mention I'm a sucker for good wood.

I'm sure I'd be fine with either of these but I still would like a great set of sights. I know that walther used to sell the kk100 for around $1500, are they still available? I know that this type of target firearm is a big departure from the type of firearms above but the look doesn't really concern me, sights are tons more fun than scopes.

So give me some opinions, especially on anything I've missed. I'm around 85% sure on the kimber unless someone convinces me different. It has a fast twist rate, dual pillar bedding, nice stock with oil finish, trued bolt face, match grade tapered chamber etc. etc. The only thing I don't like is the very short barrel. I'd like between 20" and 24" but I can live with it.

Nice! Wish I had 2k to spend on toys right now.

Whatever you go with, I hope you put up pics of it...because for 2k, I'm sure it will be a stunner.

Cheers.

The Weatherby is an Annie.

If you have $2000, why not look at a Kimber Super America. Truely a work of art. Granted, it will get you close to your high end, but $300 for a Leupold 2-7 would top it off nice. I don't think there has ever been a more beautiful rifle in rimfire, period.

Yes there certainly has been the thought of a walther or annie but I need to do some more looking at them. One of the members of the gun club was trying to sell me on a annie with 54 model action. Anyone know who a distributor is for canada??

For $2K I would be looking for a Cooper.
Me too. On top I'd put a Leupold VXII 4-12AO.

I had this exact combination when I did more rimfire shooting and to my regret let it go. The Kimber Classic I owned wasn't quite as nice but it's another good choice.

you could buy a cooper or something with fancy wood but that won't leave you much for optics, so you're best bet would be a factory stock 10/22 with a us-optic or schmidt & bender scope:p

O.K. O.K. I should have thought about that wood comment somemore before I worte that!

Been looking at the anschutz 1907 but I hate the metal but pad. anyone have anything to say about these.

Oh and the kimber super america is certainly a fine looking rifle but it doesn't leave me any room for optics unless I take something off another rifle.

Hey osborne, for that kind of money buy a Savage with peeps AND a 452/453 with a high end scope and still have lots left over for tons of match grade ammo.:D:D

I actually like the Laminate stock on the SVT. It's a very nice .22 rifle. That being said a Cooper and Annie (tend to be more expensive) are also very nice. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those three. The SVT and the Cooper appeal to me more than the Annie. I personally went with the SVT and will be putting on a Leupold 6.5-20x 40mm EFR scope. I expect this to be a very fun target/varmint gun. The K10/22T will be resighted for non match ammo after this rig is up and running.

The Anschutz with the 54 action are much nicer... something like the 1710

Personnaly, a Cooper JSR has been on my wish list for some time ;)

Every now and then I get the urge to put together an ultimage 10/22. Then I go to my gunsafe, pick up my Kimber SVT and the impulse is gone.
Any one of those three brands will put a big smile on your face.
Depending on what you plan on doing. There's the Kimber SVT for varmint and target, the Cooper LVT for the same things and the Anni heavy barrel with the American style foreend.

Frankly I think I'd like to own one of all three brands.

How about Remingtons new 547. That is one of the sweetest rifles I have ever seen. Custom shilen barrel with a so called guarentee .5 MOA accuracy. Beautiful european walnut stock. definately my choice with a ton of match ammo to go with it.
