2nd Annual F-Class Drillers Match
North Star Range - Nokomis SK
August 23th & 24th, 2008​
• $30 per day entry fee
• Registration 7:00-7:30 am
• 1st Match starts at 8:00 am both days.
• No Muzzle brakes allowed.
• Target pullers will be provided.

Saturday, August 23: 300m target @ 600 yds, 3 matches of 5 record shots for group and score - string shooting, breaks at lunch.

• Saturday's match will closely follow the IBS 1000 yd LG rules for group/score on a reduced target (1/2 MOA)
• 5 minute setup time allowed
• 5 minute unlimited sighters time period per match - Coaching will be allowed during the sighter time only - sighters will be indicated
• 5 minute for 5 shots on record target - no shots indicated during this period
• 1st place for Small Group & High Score per match in each class wins 1st place medal. Winner of Small Group per match in each class is eliminated from High Score calculation. You can’t win both small group and the high score award.
• Group & Score Agg winners receive money gift cards with places paid out using 3,6,9 rules per class.
• Small Group shooter gets name on F-Class Drillers Trophy.
Saturday Afternoon: 800yd, 1000yd, 1100yd, 1200yd fun shoot, just for giggles and come-ups for next day shooting.
Saturday Evening BBQ, BYO Meat and Drinks! Baked Potatoes, buns, salad and fixings provided.

Sunday, August 24 - 2+15 at each yardage for score - pairs shooting

• Sunday's match will be a mini-Palma on reduced targets (1/2 MOA) pairs shooting.
• 300m target @ 600 yds
• 500 yd target @ 800 yds
• 500 yd target @ 1000 yds
• 1st place per yardage per class wins a 1st place medal
• Top agg score shoot in each class Sundays gets name on F-Class Drillers Trophy. Winners receive money gift cards with places paid out using 3,6,9 rules per class.

Awards presentation after Sunday's matches.

btw - it is this weekend for those that are interested....

Slight changes too
- no paid pullers - competitor pulling
- No Gold medals - $10 gift cards instead for the 1st place medal in the above plus more cards for the aggs.

Sounds like fun Keith, wish I could make it. Maybe I'll be back from Bisley in time to attend next year, if I have any $$ left after that. LOL
 
Sorry Keith, eveytime I think I'm getting caught up, they throw three more at me. I'm not ready anyway. Three barrels to get busted in and I've had no time to do anything. I'll see you at the PPRA. Don't know what I'm shooting, F-O, F-F or plain old TR. May not have much to shoot but Damn... I'll have nice looking shirts.

The weather was great, lots of sun. The winds were typical Nokomis winds, interesting to say the least. I heard from the club President that Nokomis is rated at the hardest long range in the northern hemisphere and I can believe it! Saturdays winds were moderate to fresh (8 to 12 mph) and Sundays were fresh to very strong(12 to 20 mph). Temps were under 26 C.

Turn out was pretty poor IMO but worth it since the people that did show all enjoyed themselves and were smiling, even with the Nokomis winds. Next year we will move it more to the middle of June and see if this gets more people long range, scoped, supported shooters (F Class) out.

Personally, I used Saturday's group/score leg to work up a load and I used Saturday's best grouping load on Sunday.

Question for those that did not come?

HPBT and myself started this match for:
1) those that have come out and were not welcome by the T/R shooters
2) so the F Class shooters (centerfire with a scope, supported (rest or bipod) could have their own match and run it how ever they wanted
3) so the F Class shooters could shoot at whatever type of targets they wanted
4) the F Class shooters could have their own match that would stand alone

We have been up and running for 2 years and have yet to break the dozen mark head count wise.

We also set it up so the top shooters/winners could (esp. if more came out since it would make for bigger pots) win something to help support their shooting habit.

I think HPBT and blackdiamond are talking about some kind of tac match next year already at Nokomis. That would be a hoot too....

My question for those that do not come... Would more come out if we asked, like Mattrock and PH Mike's matches, for sponsors from vendors? Or is it the style of shooting (prone) that hold you back? or the Distances??? Or the Date (late Aug) ???

Keith, I have said it before and I know people don't want to hear it but here goes....
TR and F Class need each other, neither one will be able to pull off big shoots (large number of shooters) on their own, at the provinncial level. I would suggest you talk to the TR guys and work out some kind of program that will keep both groups happy. Who cares what kind of target you shoot at as long as everyone is shooting the same distance at the same time. And the timings are close so one group doesn't hold up the other groups when it comes time to move back to the next range. There is no reason you can't have your own squadding, targets and prize list while the TR guys do their own thing a couple of targets down.
I don't know how many shooters you could draw that would be shooting the DCRA matches, that end on the weekend you hold your match.
 
For myself Keith it's the time involved and the distance between us. 2-3 days travel each way and 2 days shooting = a week off work that I don't get paid for.

This year was the first year I have ventured farther than our local range to shoot (3 times in Chilliwack and the up coming Kananaskis shoot).

Next year I will be spending my entire 3 weeks holidays in England/Ireland to shoot Bisley and spend another 2 weeks touring with my wife.

Like Maynard stated, maybe your timing could be better, spring match maybe?

I know I would have a better chance of making it in the early/mid spring more-so than the middle/end of Summer which is my busiest season at work.

It sounds like a very challenging and fun match to attend.

And of course, sponsor prizes wouldn't hurt either :D

Now that I know this is an F-Only match, I will be there next year. Richard Tom and I are doing England next July, but as indicated if it could be earlier in the year, that would be great. I'm sure we could load up the Myoclonic Jerks and come out to whoop some prairie butt!

As for sponsorship and prizes, we'll talk. I'd really like to help out.
 
i think u would have bigger sucess if u ran more of a tactical shoot. by this i mean different targets at each distance not just ur standard f-class target. it helps to get sponsors to donate prizes but it is also alot of work to contact differnet companys. i know from the twenty i contacted ten came through and donated stuff. also i am thinking of changing the date of my aug shoot because alot of people are getting ready for hunting and not thinking so much about matches. just my 2 cents
 
It is a hell of a lot of work to run a Tac match for 60 shooters with the props, prizes, different targets etc.

It is most definitely a team effort. There is no way I could do it alone without my behind the scenes crew, they are indispensable.

I am still eyeing running one back home but time constraints for me killed it this year. I miss home and would like to come back and help run one of these there with the boys. I have however been eyeing Dundurn over Nokomis. The thing about Dundurn is it is a 12 bay range over the 6 in Nokomis. Dundurn's 12 bays makes it possible to run 48 shooters through over a two day weekend and still get 120 rounds down range per shooter. The only kicker is that it only goes to 900m.

There is a core group of long range shooters in southern Saskatchewan that I would be willing to bet would be interested in shooting a Tac match, unfortunately they have no interest in F-Class or the F-Class targets. Hopefully this will catch their eye.

Maynard, I hear ya'. Originally, again, we thought it would be like an alternative for Ottawa for the Fr's that don't go there do to the time and distance issues, and this is why that date was picked.

That said, Inspector has bin a mutter'n something in my ear each night we spent together in BC and at the DRRC about Ottawa and now it is stuck in my ear... and I'm thinking Ottawa in 2009, maybe hit MB Prov's on the way thru too. Time to un-screw that new 6 barrel (save it for SPRA Prov's and Ottawa) and screw on the 308 barrel and play with that one until then.

So... I will have to move the Driller's match for 2009 into maybe after the SPRA LR match, making it Mid June or after the the SPRA Prov's/late July. Plus I will have to check my ON CALL schedule to find when I'm off call so I can attend too! Ha..

The reason I picked these dates area's is the range is a mess in the early spring, the first few regular SPRA matches are usually rain outs, the targets frames need work, etc. Plus this is when we have the biggest "window" from the reg. SPRA matches. SPRA LR to their next match is 28 days, and the "window" after their Prov's is hugh, 48 days until the PPRA and 28 days until Ottawa.

I will also have to check with HPBT and Blackdiamond to see what is best for them as well and what they want to do with the Driller's in 2009 target wise etc. Once we figure things out, we will let ya' all know eh.
