2nd Annual Summerland LR Fun Shoot APRIL 14 - 15

Well, it doesn't look like there will be a shoot in Kamloops in April. No feedback and no one is answering my calls. If anyone knows more info, please let me know.

So here we go. Two choices April 14,15 or 28,29. Either post here or pm with which weekend works best for you.

There is about 15 shooters tentatively interested in coming. Room for 20 to 24 given the tables and such.

Will try and make a poll. How do you set up a poll?

Family events have determined the date. The shoot will be April 14 and 15.

Sorry, if this doesn't agree with your schedules but the best I can do.

Everyone hope for dry calm weather like last year.

Let's confirm who is coming so we can finalize the number (closing date will be Mar 15). We need tables (solid ones prefered) and chairs, spotting scopes/binos, rests. The more gear we have, the more shooting everyone gets to do. Remember the coolers and other personal niceties. EAR muffs are a necessity as some big boomers are supposed to come. swinging targets are nice too. MOA sized is plenty big and challenging (max distance is 800yds for gongs).

Also, wind flags are useful. I use the 24" flags you see on Canada Day. Well made, and well priced. They will need to be put on a pole 3' min. The ground is hard and rocky so either a strong metal pole that can be hammered in or with a base. For the most part, I don't shoot with flags.

For those shooting prone, the ground is pretty bumpy and rough so bring a good ground cloth and maybe an excercise mat. Ticks aren't out that early usually :)

For those with BMG's, I need to get an idea of how large a blast area you need so that a shooter beside you doesn't get hurt.

For those who are staying overnight, I can post motel and camp ground numbers. Although we are 'sleepy' hollow, there are the basics and a TIMMY's.

Don't worry if you don't have a range to sight in for the min 500yds distance. Just sight in 10 to 12" high at 100yds and we can dial you in. You do need a scope with reliable and repeatable turrents and as much elevation adjustment possible.

Make up your drop tables and post your questions. We have the chance to shoot out to a mile/1600m. Most shooters were shooting from 500 to 1000m. You have the freedom to shoot at the different distances through the day. I will make up a 'target' map of the area so you can have the freedom to dial up as you please.

If there are shooters who want to go further, like out to 2500m, let me know as we need to organize early morning Sunday for that. Min distance is over 1000m (got to reconfirm this spring) so you need to have your rifle adjusted (can do on Sat if needed).

According to my work schedule Myself and Danger Deb are off, so will be planning on being there.

I will be bringing the .50 BMG, our .300's and M-14 if it is finnished by then. I have shot my .50BMG next to people and spotters inside of 5ft with no ill effects from concussion, dust may be another issue. As long as everyone is behind the muzzle and not directly 90degrees to it, it will be ok.

We will be looking for accomadations for our stay, so a close and recomended firearm friendly hotel list would be an asset.

As far as distance. to shoot, I will "TRY" any range you set up.

For Shooting, I can bring spotting scope, Laser Range finder, and lots of extra ear plugs for shooters and spectators. Just do up a list of needs and I will bring all I can.

Rosedale Motel is the closest and best motel in town at 250-494-6431.

Pleasant View is a minute away so not stumble friendly 250-494-7406. RV friendly though.

Peach Orchard camp ground for RV and tent - 250-494-9649

Non restricted firearms are simply luggage so you don't need to 'declare' them (me thinks). Just keep them out of sight and locked.

Forgot to mention that Restricted firearms are not allowed as this is Crown land. Sorry, but the Farrets will have to stay at home.

NO tracers, incendiary or AP bullets. We don't need a fire sparking up.

Also, for 1000m and further, you will likely shoot from a table/bench. We are shooting into a hillside at an angle so shooting prone will be quite a strain on the neck unless you have a very tall bipod.

Definitely, the extreme range shooting will be off a bench as there is no clear ground to shoot from.

Shooting out to 800yds is no problem from prone.

The area is truck access only so we will need to figure out who has cars and needs a ride in. Sorry, you can't camp out there unless you have a truck and camper or want to tent. Trailers and RV's will get eaten on the road in.

Like last year, we will meet up at the parking lot of the Summerland High School early then drive in. We will leave the parking lot at 8am sharp as it is a 20min drive in, then set up time and we want to be shooting as long as possible.

I will post an agenda as we get closer to the date and I finalize the gear coming.

We will also need FRS radios for road control if there is enough of us.

Well I don't work that wekend and live nearby. Also my new toy will be in and sighted in by then, so count me in! I'll bring at least 3 FRS radios and se what I can do about a table.

Not trying to be a jerk but increasing traffic will slow down the shooting ALOT.

Any traffic entering the 'range' causes it to be shut down till the traffic clears. This takes some time. If traffic shows up often for spectators, it can really put a damper on shooting.

If you can, please show up in the morning then leave when we have a break in shooting. This way the shooters are not adversely affected.

Most of the shooters are coming a very long ways and my primary focus is giving them lots of trigger time. I want as many shooters and viewers as possible but without affecting the shooting adversely.

Get a section of canvas tarp (say 4' X 4') and lay it down just under the barrel so that the muzzle brake is over top of it.

That should help keep dust down from the muzzle blast.

Carlos Hathcock used this trick (using a bandana) when he stalked the General so that his position wouldn't be given away by the dust cloud from his muzzle blast.
