So, to start off, I'm new to hunting and this is only my 2nd year doing it. I wanted to share with you CGN'ers the story of my first kill.
About 730pm tonight, I had the scare of a lifetime.
I had been out sitting in my treestand (only about 1 metre off the ground) 30yds from my bait for about 5 hours, and i was beginning to get sore and restless. I hung my shotgun up on a branch, and stood up to stretch, and check my phone. I then heard a twig snap, and looked over my right shoulder to see a decent size black bear staring at me from about 15 feet away.
I nearly s**t my pants, began shaking like a little girl as i reached for my gun. The bear and i made eye contact as i picked up the gun, and before i could turn and get the safety off, it had taken off into the bushes. Feeling discouraged, like i had blown my one shot at taking the bear, i texted my good buddy who's an experienced hunter, who advised me to be patient and wait till dark and that he may come back.
About 10 mins later, the bear had circled around me and popped out in front of me, and began to approach my bait. I let him have a 3'' magnum slug from my Remington 870 12 gauge. The bugger ran about 100yds, down a ravine and into a swamp. It took us 2 hours (in the dark!) to drag it out to the road because it was too thick to get an ATV in there.
