2nd Remington 1100 configuration

So i FINALLY got the chance to try out my newly Remington 1100 shotgun with my dad last weekend. For 400$, and the condition it's in, it was a steal. And the gas ring is brand new.
Problem is, its a freakishly long barrel, made for skeet shooting... as that is ALSO its model! I think the gun was in the 90s. I'll have to check the serial #.

But i wish to be able to convert it to a more compact version of it when i go small game hunting and increase its capacity to 5+1. Right now it has flawless wood on it and i wanna keep it that way. And the magazine has a plug for migratory bird hunting. So i want to have new synthetic furniture that i know i won't mind scratching in the truck/atv. Also wouldn't mind a pistol grip.

Is there anywhere i could get a 18.6" barrel and a +1 extension?

Also, all of the modifications need to be reversible as this would be my hunting config but i wanna keep it all reconfigurable for skeet and selling it in the future.
 
I don't think the 18.6 barrel is doable on a semi...someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the limit is 19" on a semi unless manufactured...
At any rate it looks like you want to find a spare barrel and modify it; no biggy if you keep it legal length and fit it to the rest of the gun.
Synthetic forearms and butt stocks are plentiful.
An 870 +1 will get your extra capacity.
It takes minutes to swap configurations.
 
18.5 is the absolute minimum you can cut it to. But also consider you will then likely need to have it threaded for chokes. This whole operation will probably cost half the price of the gun.

There are numerous 25" 1100 barrels out there that have a mod choke in them usually.

One major consideration is if your gun is a magnum, the lighter 2 3/4" shells will likely not cycle the action after the barrel is cut due to the gas ports being too small. In my experience, this does not really apply to the 2 3/4 only guns.
 
Many of the site sponsors here should have +1 tubes, so check them out. S&J hardware has many small upgrades you may want... magazine followers, big button speed safety, side saddle carriers...

At least one "local" gunsmith in your area should be able to shorten your barrel and then thread it for chokes... if not, ask around. But... they might need to go with an aftermarket choke, because Remington chokes may not be doable for a custom job like that (where its cut the barrel may be too thin for Rem-choke threads).

Now...how short? Well... to go real short, you will likely need to open up the gas ports a little. But don'f just find a big dro
ill bit and go to town... find out on forums searches to see what size to try. If you drill too large, the extra gas may do damage to the bolt carrier and your frame, premature wear and cracks.

22" is really quite short and handy, and I know it can be reliable.
 
I would find a 26 or 22 inch barrel and stay way from a pistol grip not very good .for hunting .and just about every gun shop with carry a sock set in camo or black .Dutch
