35 Sambar (325 WSM necked up to .358). A stainless laminate or synthetic Ruger Hawkeye would be a good platform. ;)

ha ha- briel Jackson fan ey,

Nah mate /Traded a 300 WSM for a 308...... to hunt Sambar deer.... WSM are needed for Elk I heard but our Sambar arnt bullet proof ;) ;)

I'm too lightly framed for such a case full of powder... neee###tt.

the Whelen however..... pitty its a 8 lb rifle

They are large mate! and tough animals... I was just giving some cheek ;)

if you ask many, the 338 win mag and 300 win mag are the only choices for Sambar.. lol , much like yer Elks.

You still poke a 270winchester in behind the front leg, to a couple Ribs back and even the Biggest will die, they are just strong willed and he may run off some distance into thicker country before expiring, hence the talk of big cals to 'anchor' them, I rarely hunt super thick so I rely on tracking , but put it in the right spot and be rewarded.

Heres the Rifles in Question

Got a bearing on your approximate location. So the scoped 7mm-08 is your primary rifle and it's good to see it's stainless synthetic as you say you might encounter inclement weather. Your 303 British has worked so why not give the 375 Winchester a try as your back-up rifle.

The Win 94 Big Bore would be my choice fer sure using hardcast 265 gr. RNFP boolits launched at 1700 fps. fer sure. This load works well on moose sized critters inside 100 yds. and should serve ye well on Sanbar, no worries.
:)
I should'a kept my one, but I'm now having fun with a Husqvarna in 9.3x57 which can toss 270-300 gr. lead bombs that shoot straight and can get decent speed at lower pressures than the .375 Win but that's part of the fun.

Back in from some target time, the test was closest to bull overall... the 303 would work with 180gr but the 245gr 375BB produced the Goods and will be ran as Backup/Lower elevation gun!

Cheering!!
The Montana shot good with Minir scope adjustment is now 2inch high at 100m , as up on the High plains a long across valley shot is often needed.. for me 350m maxes me out!

Im excited to be totin a Model 94 in the Wonnangatta!

Yeah mate thats the Spot!! Its a pretty famous place in the sambar hunting world down under.
No secret and it gets a flogging , legally and illegally only really target deer with antler.. hard to find old ones but a but they are there... lots of hinds tho. Fires and regrowth make tuff times

Always interesting to see a map of Australia. So big, yet most of the population is on the coast, sorta like much of our population is on the US border. Would be quite a trip to go from Perth to Syndney overland.

Gatehouse, it is quite a Trip, I've done it a few times now for various reasons.. Drove my Sisters Car across for her once, its 4500k or something, an you can do it in 3 big days but a casual 4 is the go. There is the Longest straight road down along the Nullabor Plains toward the W.A Border.
Terrain Varies so much.....

Yup. must be interesting! Driving across Canada is interesting at times and boring as hell at times, too. I did it when I was young and figured out why so many people with non BC plates went so slow on corners and on hills :)

The Down Under invented 35 Sambar (aka 350 WSM) is an interesting round - fires a 250gr bullet at 2700 fps.

Same ballistics as the 350 Rem. Mag. with bullets seated out like I've done to take full advantage of available case capacity.

I reckon ye made the right choice on the 94 fer sure seein' as it has done ye well before. Hard to leave behind a favorite that has worked well for ye ain't it?;) Happy huntin' WL.

Yip, its not really a bad round at all..... if you're going to do a cal like 358 norma, or 350 rem mag in Oz, you may aswell look into the 35 Sambar too... same hassle to set up bit once set up, WSM brass aplenty..

it could be played two ways I rekon, loaded up with oomph both ends no doubt, but also with a different powder, made to shoot a 250gr reasonably quick with energy but not the major recoil... especially if in a Abolt or such.
