3" BPS opinions.

I have a BPS All Weather and it is lightyears ahead of the Remington it replaced in fit and finish, very smooth and well made. If I didn't already have a new SuperNova I would be buying another BPS instead.

I ordered one. Handled it in the store before ordering online. Heavy -- yes. And swings exceptionally well because of it.

Also shouldered Win SXP, which was very light and skippy compared to BPS.

Also I noticed that BPS has a longer LOP compared to SXP. BPS fit me well as I'm 6'1" whilst SXP was too short for me.

+1 on the smooth action. Compared only with older Ithacas, which was a golden standard for me.
Taking them apart for cleaning? Nonsense! :) Just run a boresnake once in a while and you're good to go!

I would agree that you should handle one before buying. They are very well made. One of, if not the smoothest pump in the market today. But as mentioned, the pump handle is a bit shorter than others and taking it apart take some getting use to.

+1 on this one! Made in Japan says it all for me!

Pass on the. Bps and buy some piece of crap mossberg or win xp what ever or the king of junk the famous express NOT! The Bps is hands down the best pump made today smooth high luster blue steel mached parts that a rarity in a gun today I have worked as a gunsmith since they have come out 1978 never seen this rusting thing people speaking blueing is actually a rusting process when u take a new gun out of a box u should be whiping rust off of it that means it is a good bluing job as opposed to a blacking process that some companies use my Ceasar Guerini still has rust coming off the bbl"s after 6 months they have the nicest blueing I have ever seen really unless u drop your BPS in the mud there is no reason to dissasable the action for cleaning untill u put about 10,000 rounds through it or u just like to tinker

As far as the taking it apart comments go, it's not bad at all. Yes the 870 is simpler but not by much. It's a pump shotgun, they really aren't that complicated of a beast. I certainly wouldn't let that put you off the gun. It's a great pump.

Not to me and many ,many others. Your comment " Yes the 870 is simpler but not by much" Yes sir I agree the apart is simple the back together is the bear

Well no where in my 870 owners manual does it say anything like this

DO NOT TAKE YOUR GUN'S ACTION APART. This is a specialized,
finely fitted mechanism; and you may mar it for life by an attempt
to remove the inner mechanism. It is unnecessary, and may do
damage to the inner mechanism, to disassemble it for routine
cleaning and oiling. Of course, misfortunes (such as dropping
your gun in water) require appropriate attention, and in such
circumstances we recommend you immediately take your gun
to a competent gunsmith.

Nor on the largest shotgun form out there did they get a gunsmith to put together some tips for my 870 to help members having problems with BPS , just google it page and pages of those struggling

Nor was so many frustrated with the BPS that a gunsmith actually designed a special tool for assembly which brownells now sells

Like I said I would not stop buying one because of it but sure take my time or ask for help especially the 1st time doing it. One in 1000 will fall back together after the trigger is out which maybe you have and be thankful since it is not the norm. That or you are special with three hands which is what is required or there is more wrong with the gun than a bulged barrel. Have you checked it against a parts list / drawing to make sure everything is there would not be the 1st time I have seen that??
Good luck with the barrel fix should be just fine.

just got to use my BPS 12g 3" Hunter for the first time yesterday, and I really liked it alot :) I am only 5"9" and I dont find the LOP to be an issue at all, love the weight and balance of the gun, but, like everyone has stated already, it would be best to shoulder one before you buy, however, being a lefty myself, this gun is perfect for me, and i absolutely love the bottom eject!

Both pulling it apart and reassembly, while somewhat fiddly, really isn't that bad. I was surprised to see that on the browning website to be sure.

Just curious?? How many different BPS have you totally pulled apart and roughly how many times?? Well all fluke the odd one. Sounds like this maybe your first??

Love my BPS, it's my do-everything, lefty-friendly shotgun.

The original stock was too long and too high for me so I made one myself by laminating three ash boards with plenty of Elmers outdoor glue.
Ten years and countless mag loads later and the ugly thing refuses to come apart...

As for disassembly, it can be a task but the more you do it the better you get at it. I only break it down at the end of the season to clean and put away for the year. The bluing is indeed beautiful but I managed to rub most of it off the receiver just by carrying it in the field.

Too bad you live out east, sounds like a couple of us in Ontario have One. I bought one as my first shotgun, without seeing it first or handling a bps. It feels like it fits me fine and I like the feel more that other shotguns I've handled. That said I'm over 6' and have some weight. I've heard the bps feels "big" or has a big lop on it.

It's a good reliable gun. Have put tons of rounds through mine. Bit heavy for upland but for sitting in a duck blind its fine. Doesnt swing as nice as a high end shotty but good enough for me. Being a lefty I like the bottom discharge. Not a big believer of having to totally dismantle for cleaning this gun on a regular basis. Once or twice a year ill take it apart for a good cleaning if I ve put a lot of shells through it but normally just a basic cleaning will suffice. Browning acctually recommends not dismantling it completely.
