3-Gun Confusion.......Help

I disagree with D_ on one point...

Capacity laws don't ruin 3gun in Canada.
It's real estate.

Most shooting must be done on "approved" ranges and well. ..
It's very difficult to mimic the type of stages we shoot in the USA when we're hobbled by so many rules and regulations

I would agree with D on the capacity "severely affecting" Canadian 3-gun. We definately have to run lower round count courses, and our load outs have to be severely modified. Where a guy in the states only needs 1 or 2 30 round mags to run a huge COF and can run a 10 round semi shotgun and have only 2 15-22 round pistol mags, it all fits on a belt nicely. We end up with 5-7 LAR mags, 6 shotgun caddies, and 4-5 pistol mags to run a decent COF or just really short COFs.

As for real estate, I'm in Alberta. Our ranges dont suffer real estate. At Genesse, we regularily get to set up stages that go out to 300 yards, we are looking to start going out to 500 next year once we get more steel. Our limitation is that currently we only have two ranges we can shut down for stages with our currect league size, we can increase to 3 once our club grows. If we can start on our range rennovations, there are designs and plans over the next 2-3 years to be able to run stages on up to 5 ranges.

Spruce Grove can run 5-6 stages, but only one out to 300 yards and a couple out to 100 yards.

When limited to range, make the targets smaller to simulate longer distances. A half size ipsc steel at 300y is equivelant to a 600y shot and easier to hear the hits.

great answers D, Thanks
I have decided after a bunch of research that i an buying a Versamax, just gott figure out who can chop it down from 28" to 22" and thread it for chokes
Casey at Tac Ordanance in Ontario has done it; but it's not as simple as just cutting and rethreading.
The barrels are different dimensions at the end and middle. You can't reuse the chokes that come with it.
Give him a call if you're interested.

At my home range this is very much the case. We have a 200m as our longest range but it is also used as our public range so we would need quite a good event in order to get that shut down for it.

But the worst part is that we don't allow side impact on our berms or ground impact. Part of that is due to foundation material on the berms which could be rectified. But then it requires board members to be convinced there would be no chance of rounds coming back however small the odds are. We can work within our relatively small stages if we could improve the variety of the layout!

Our main committee for action sports is IPSC and we would very much like to bring side impact back. It's a slow process to bring about change on that part.

"Severly modified"... No.
The only difference between us and the US is that we just need to reload/change mags a little more frequetly.

Again.. Not entirely accurate.
In my experience even at the BIG US matches rifle round counts per stage are rarely over what you can do with ONE 30rnd mag. I've only ever carried two. One in the gun and one just in case of a feeding malfunction or for thiose times when I suck more than usual and take too many extra shots.
So really... Here ate home... 3-4 LAR mags should do.
Keep in mind there are guys who shoot HM who manage just fine with 20rnd rifle mags and 8-10 round pistol mags.

Like I said... We can really only run this game on "ranges"... As big as it is your range is just that... A range. And as you mentioned with that comes all the problems associated with ranges and clubs when it comes to running events.

When limited to range, make the targets smaller to simulate longer distances. A half size ipsc steel at 300y is equivelant to a 600y shot and easier to hear the hits.

It's still 300yrds.
The target is just smaller.

I actually agree. I will say that is not mainly capacity ( i have polymer 50 BEO mags and 6 tube Benelli) so it's doable.

The funnest matches i have been to have multiple shots out past 350 yards out to 600 yards.
