I'm wondering if it's worthwhile having Open and Standard divisions for the local 3 Gun matches we hold. There's usually 20-25 shooters max and while I understand it's an advantage for the Open guys it would be easier to run with no divisions.

They one we'll be putting on next month is only going to be a 50m match so the only advantage will be to the guys with Open pistols.

Rules as stands is if any gun is Open (comps or optics) you're classed Open.

I voted no, but ultimately I'd leave it up to the shooters. poll them in advance or after the match, see what they think. The carbine/3 gun matches out here are not divided by division - sure the guys with the souped up guns have an advantage but it's all for fun... isn't it?? :)

IPSC requires only 5 competitors to make a division, but it does complicate scoring a little.

My vote was "not for a few shooters" but that is easy for me to say I shoot open. What is the date of your match?

NaOH,

I think there should be a distinction between open and standard for sure, any one open gun will do.
BTW: When is the match? Is it same weekend as the NZs..is there a NZ this year?

Exactly Sean.........

Open and Standard only is the way I have run my small matches.

Works great and is relatively easy to manage.

The problem is educating the competitors as to what defines the two.

Three gun matches are equipment expensive .
To get new shooters you have a good possibility they can't afford all the eye candy in one go plus they might not like the idea of being " lambs to the slaughter " due to equipment shortcomings .
I'd keep standard and open .

Decision was made (today) to hold off on the match until spring. Gives us more time to plan it out and then we can use the rifle range as well. It also gives us more time to advertise for people out of town.

I thought a comp on an AR was the norm? Technically, a Birdcage flash hider is a type of comp,....isn't it?
