I am new to 3gun matches and I want to help speed up my times and after only going to 2 matches in my area I noticed guys wearing full body armour, it was very heavy , bulky , hot and difficult to move around in. Not to mention very expensive so with that said I don't understand how this would help.
Can someone explain the theory behind this please as I don't want to go all day out and not reap the benefits.

Take a look at the top 3 gun competitors in the US not one of them uses body armor or any kind of tactical vest/ plate carrier. Don't waste you money unless you are wanting to become a mall ninja.

I have never seen anyone in full body armor, maybe a light chest rig instead of a belt.
Most guys here run a competition belt like DAA or Safariland ELS as it is much less bulky and heavy

Only reason I could see guys wearing full equipment including plates is to train on the equipment you'll be using, especially if they are going overseas or need it for their jobs?

Could also be Mall Ninja or maybe that 3 gun competition had a class for full gear?

I asked them and they say it holds all their gear but I also asked if they were planning on being shot at?? They thought I was crazy but they were wearing the steel plates not me.
I had shells in my pockets and anywhere the mags would fit and I had a great time.

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing.

Some guys wear swat/military gear.
Some guys wear flamboyantly colored hockey jerseys.
And plenty of guys just wear plain old jeans and a T-shirt.

At the end of the day; your attire will have very little effect on your score.
But if you enjoy wearing certain types of gear, then by all means wear it.

Take a look at the Cowboy Action Shooters.
Some of those guys go to great lengths to piece together the perfect cowboy attire to wear at matches.

Of course it has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on how well they can shoot.
But if it makes matches more fun for them, then by all means they should do it.

I know "MISSISSAUGAGUNNUTZ" likes to compete in his tutu and leather thong..and he shoots quiet well in it..and what an ass when he goes prone

At the 3 gun tournament I recently did, there was a cop wearing real plates in his plate carrier, he justified it as training.

Some people run fake plates just to stiffen up the plate carrier.

Then you get "those guys" *cough* hmmm preppers.

None of that stuff is ALLOWED under three gun nation rules, same for USPSA. Those are the two most respected governing bodies at the moment.

Some people actually wear plates for protection. A friend of my dad took some shrapnel from a .45 ricochet in the stomach. It was a bad scene. He now wears a plate carrier at shoots. After that I was considering wearing one my self.

So what? Are there any 3GN or USPSA 3 gun matches even being run in Ontario this year? I say wear what you want. It's a shooting contest not a fashion contest.

I stand corrected.
USPSA
5.4.1 The use of offensive or objectionable garments is not allowed. The Match Director will have final authority regarding what garments competitors are allowed to wear.
ISPC
5.3.1 The use of camouflage or other similar types of military or police garments other than by competitors who are law enforcement or military personnel is discouraged. The Match Director will be the final authority in respect of what garments must not be worn by competitors.
3GN
Doesn't say much other than it has to be safe.

I can appreciate the training purposes, ricochets although do happen I believe more precautions should be taken in shrouding and safety zone distances to help reduce this.
It's the GI JOE wannabes that crack me up! Lol
