Just curious as to the thoughts on using a 45 degree dot or sights for close in targets as opposed to just using a holdover.
Obviously this applies only to the "open" division. What is your preference?

Tried a 45 degree mount, wasn't that comfortable with it.

I found I prefer to keep my rifle straight up and down for all shots; the Specter DR I use simply flips a lever to 1 power from either and gives me a big field of view with a red dot.

Elcan may be a bit pricey for some, but I'm sure there are other providers that offer a similar solution.

I have 1-4 scope and also use a small burris red dot on the top of the scope for close shots. I use the red dot 80% of the time.
My only gripe, the red dot is useless mounted on the top when shooting through a V-tac board.

I use the dd 45 irons. Good for practical and unlimited class. Some stages with alternating close and far targets it comes in handy. If it is a single target though I tend to stay just using my primary optic.

I have a 45 degree irons.. I really can't say I have used it much. If something is so close that I don't use my scope, it is probably close enough that I can point shoot it. I am deliberating taking it off, though it isn't any noticeable added weight.

I like Taran Butler's method of shooting occluded with close in targets. He doesn't look through the scope for close in targets, he just makes sure the scope covers the target and blasts away.
