3 Gun Rifle Choice?

Would one be laughed off the course if they showed up with something bigger than an ar? I'm a new shooter and just dropped a chunk of change on my pistol and don't have the cash for a high end rifle. I'm not a fan of the restricted rifles and the non restricted xcr's or sl8's are out of my price range just yet. If I showed up with an m305 with 10 round aia mags am I going to lose faster that the start buzzer?

I'm not sure what events you've been to, but every match I've been to is more like a family gathering than a pissing contest. I've never seen anyone laughed at or ridiculed for their gear or performance, other than safety issues. There's some light hearted ribbing between friends and acquaintances but nothing malicious. I can assure you such behavior would likely result in the individual going home. Most competitors are more than happy to offer advice, I've even loaned out guns mags and gear to carry it all. The more that shoot the better. Winning or placing is secondary to making noise.;)

Yup, thats the way it is and ought to be. Well put.

Not to derail things too much but has anyone had issues runing the AIA mags? Are the marked sufficiently that you don't get hassled by RO's?

They're not marked at all. Mine only have the last 4 digits of the rifles serial # written on the base plates with marker.

They are clearly not M14 mags as they lack the notch in the front of the mag for the op-rod guide to fit into. If the RO doesn't accept that, educate him.

The only issue I see up here, in Ontario, is some ranges are not templated for bigger than 7.62x39.

Interesting. The range I'm a member at is an indoor range and a the 40m rifle range is rated for .338 lapua (not sure who work of shoot that at a 40m but to each their own). The range that hosts the 3 gun matches is a different range so ill have to check that out.
