My next purchase is going to be a rifle I can use for Tactical Optics division in 3 gun competitions (I believe the division is correct)

I admit that I do not know all that much yet and just started reading up on everything 3 gun

I do have a few basic questions however.

First off, why is the AR-15 platform preferred over the XCR or ACR platform?
Do you think the advantages of the AR’s outweigh the non restricted use of the XCR/ACR’s

I do know I would like to use the 10 round LMR mags as I have them for my kel-tec SU-16
Do the LMR mags fit the below rifles other than the NEA and Arms East

I Like the rifles listed below but wondering which barrel length would be the best all round for Ontario tournaments

An AR-15 carbine is preferred because of lightweight, better accuracy, and ease of handling. A 14.5" or 16" carbine will usually be under 7lbs (even with optics, my LMT Defender w/ ACOG is 7lb 3oz). A carbine as described is great for shooting out to 200 yards. The RRA LAR-15 mags are STANAG compliant mags, so they will fit in any rifle designed to accommodate that type of magazine (any AR-15 and several other types of rifle).

If you are going for 3-gun, you may want to consider a rifle that is specifically setup for that kind of competition. stag, STI and now colt make competition rifles that are specific for that segment of the market.

Stag Arms is into Three Gun in a big way.

The New Model 3G includes the 18" 1:8 SS Fluted barrel, light weight Samson Evolution FF hand guard, Stag Arms 3G Comp, Geissele S3G Trigger, Magpul ACS Stock, and Dueck Offset F/R Sights. Add an optic and it is off to the 3G Races.

The 3G will be in Canada this month.

Now, I am not a three gunner, but I can shed some light towards the ar vs xcr etc.

The ar platform is arguably the most common and prevalent semi auto on the market.
What makes it so successful boils down to modularity.
The xcr has a fixed length upper for the full size rifle, short of milling, you cannot reduce the weight.
the ar has how freaking many types, brands, makes, lengths, material and rail configurations? Tons.
How many after market .22 uppers for training are there for the xcr? None.
How many people make barrels for the acr that people can drop in at home?

Basically you build an ar how you like it, then can build a new upper for whatever you want.

Just my 0.02.

These guys are just jumping on the 3gun market band wagon... :D

Slap together a rifle.. Give it a cool 3gun name and try to sell it.

B'sides.. Everyone knows the coolest 3gun set up is a JP. Anything less is well... Less.

So what's this rifle predicted to go for? $1500 for the STI or ? for the Stag, the Stag has some additional offerings but it would be nice to keep the price down. Either way at some point my Norc is gonna need to get upgraded.
