hey had some questions on 3 gun rules and regs.

Are there divisions like regular IPSC? If you shoot Production with handgun does this make it production for 3 gun?

For the rifles, are there any that arent allowed? Any restrictions on optics? Accesories? Or does anything go?

For Shotgun are there any restrictions on chokes, guage?, action? optics? sites? accesories? Say you have a surefire on it already is it ok?

For mag holders what is usual for AR type mags? How many on average would you need for a match? Are tactical vests that hold pouches ok? For shotgun shell holders what is used? just pockets on vest? side saddles on gun?

Anybody have any other info? I want to make sure any stuff I use is legal for the match. thanks for any help.:dancingbanana:

would a vest like this be ok? In black?

Im not interested in dressing like a merc, but it might be more user friendly then carrying all your mags and shells in like an A&P bag or something..

Any centre fire rifle will do..........

That said I have only seen a single bolt action in a match and he ended up with a broken extractor after 3 or 4 rounds..( right Nightmare!)

I use a AR15 ( but hope to use my K2 again some day) with a mag vest holding 10 mags.

My shotty is a 870 with 20 " barrel, 8 shot tube, side saddle and speed feed stock so I carry 16 rounds on the gun. Extra shot shells go in the grenade pouches on my vest.

My pistol is my 1911 IPSC Rig.

For the 3 gun matches I shot at these were the regs:

Rifle: All rifles are OPEN class, so they are all treated the same. The type restrictions came from which classification of guns allowed (restricted or non-restricted) by law.

Shotguns: Anything goes, again they are treated as OPEN class.

Vests: They are ok, but maybe the organisers have objections to tacticool stuff. NO drop leg holsters allowed by rules, it can be a low ride, but cannot have leg straps.

Keep in mind, some matches may have enough of various types of rifles & shotguns and they may create classes. But as a general rule, the laws dictate the rifle types and IPSC dictates that no drop leg stuff allowed.

I used some Drop leg stuff and some hip pouches which had a leg strap last year, didn't realize it wasn't within' the rules...?
....just checked, that must be house rules you were referring to..?

Apendix D1 and D2 as well as 5.2.4 state what is ok.

so if drop leg is out? does this mean its either belt AR pouches or Vest pouches?

Do I need slings on my Shottie and AR?

Arghgh I gotta ask, what is the reasonable amount of mags I will need?> Ive only got 3 AR mags right now, should I have at least 5-6? Or do I need 10?

For the shottie, I have the speedfeed stock which holds 4 shells. The shottie itself holds 4 shells, is this ok? Do I need to remove my surefire forend prior to the match or just leave it?

thanks for info.

I would get at least 3 more mags, but it also depends on the rds per stage you guys do in Ontario. We did a lot of 1rd per target up here, very few stages required more than 16 rds.
Not sure about shotgun, as I don't use it seriously in IPSC. (can't do much with a 14" 6rd shotty!)

I didn't read the rules (as least not recently), but I went with what was tough during the black badge course and what I have been told at matches. Guns can ride low but without the leg strap from what I am told, now this could be a local PC rule or your matches are tolerent for these things, I personally don't see what the issue is but I don't make them rules!!!

...........

LOL....I thought it would be fun to try....Dad's Mauser. :D

IIRC....I was on my way to A's for the 200m targets...with iron sights. :D My times on the 100m would have sucked...

The extractor problem wasn't a break....just a failure to extract. (claw didn't grab the rim right).

Hmmmmmmmm a match with WW2 iron????

green man said I can borrow some of the tactical vests he has acquired over the years. Some really interesting designs that he had in his closet............
